Continue ReadingThis past week, players continued to shine for their team’s, and quite easily, some of them made it on this week’s installment of our MVP’s Series. Below, we have added some of our favorite performances from last week, some of which you may have already heard of, and have already potentially been able to be excited about. As this week is about to be underway with games, feel free to make your own predictions of whether any of these players may make our next list.
Jordan McDonald Jordan McDonald 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Milton | 2022 State GA (RB)- Milton
Last week, McDonald had a performance for the books. In Milton’s big time 68-7 win over Woodstock, he rushed the ball only 4 times, but managed to accumulate 136 yards and 3 TD’s. With performances like this, it should not be a surprise that Milton has been on a roll this year.
Justice Haynes Justice Haynes 5'10" | 205 lbs | RB Buford | 2023 State GA (RB)- Blessed Trinity
Haynes, who is easily one of the most talented prospects in the state, had a big time performance against Cass this past Friday. In their 34-13 win, he ran the ball 11 times, and accumulated 190 yards. With this, he also had 2 TD’s, accounting for 12 of his team’s 34 points that night. As the season progresses, we fully expect him to have more of these performances for his team.
R.J. Johnson R.J. Johnson 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Westlake | 2023 State GA (QB)- Westlake
Johnson, who plays for Cam Newton’s alma mater, helped lead his squad to a blowout win against Lovejoy last week. In this performance, he only had 6 incompletions, on a 15-21 passing record that night. With this, he had a total of 176 yards, and 3 TD’s, accounting for 18 of his teams points.
Joe Braswell (QB)- Spalding
Last Friday, against Westside Macon, Braswell threw for over 340 yards and 3 TD’s. If this isn’t impressive enough, he managed to do all of this on only 15 passes. This contributed to his team’s 48-13 win, which certainly won’t be their last win this season if he continues to play at this level.
Sabian Campbell (DB)- Southwest DeKalb
Campbell, who is a standout DB for Southwest DeKalb, had another strong performance last week as his team defeated Decatur 33-19. In this game, he had not 1 pick six, but 2. His contributions to his team lended them 12, of their total 33 points, and will likely have another standout performance before the season is over.
Kaliq Jordan (RB/LB)- Metter
Jordan has continued to be a valuable asset for Metter, as he is not just productive on the defensive side of the ball, but he also puts in his fair share of work on offense as well. Against Claxon, not only did he help his team to a 62-10 win, but he rushed the ball only 3 times, but managed to total 105 yards. On the opposite side of the ball, he also had great success, as he made 6 tackles, and forced a fumble.
Joshua Thompson (WR)- Johns Creek
Thompson continued to stand out for John’s Creek last week, as he caught 2 TD passes in his team’s close win over River Ridge. In this game, his team won 40-36, but this could not have been done without the continued momentum boost that he provided his team. In this game, he also blocked a kick, which is VERY rare.
