Second- round playoffs in the Garden State was one to remember. Most games simply felt like a regular season exhibition match. That being said, scroll down below and check out the scores from the semi-final round.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>South Jersey, Group 1 </strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Pennsauken 14 at Millville 50</strong></span>
Millville will roll into the Group 4 final matchup after defeating Pennsauken 50-14. <em>Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id="27978" first="LeQuint" last="Allen"] (Millville)</em> ran angry to help Millville secure the win. Allen carried the ball 20 times for 217 yards and 2 TDs. Millville’s level of physicality was unmatched as they dominated on both sides of the ball. That allowed other players to shine such as <em>Senior WR Ti-yon Cephas (Millville)</em> who made his biggest impact of the year. Cephas had 3 catches for 100 yards and 2 TDs. Most of the attention was to control top prospect [player_tooltip player_id="218554" first="Lotzier" last="Brooks"] that opened up plays for others. Millville will advance to final round to take on Ocean City Friday night.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>South Jersey, Group 5</strong></span>
<strong><span style="font-size: 24pt;">Williamstown 14 at Hillsborough 49 </span></strong>
No.13 Hillsborough jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead in the first quarter. <em>Junior RB Tyler Michinard (Hillsborough)</em> had a great performance to help his team come away with a victory. Michinard had 25 carries with 155 yards and 6 TDs. He wreaked havoc against Williamstown who have been skeptical against the run all season. Hillsborough did a great job keeping Williamstown one dimensional but of course Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id="27990" first="Turner" last="Inge"] (Williamstown) will still produce. It simply was not enough for Williamstown. Hillsborough will remain undefeated and will face North Brunswick in the Group 5 final match up Friday night.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>South Jersey, Group 4</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Clearview 7 at Shawnee 42</strong></span>
Shawnee rolls by Clearview for their fifth second- round victory in the past seven years. Shawnee is known for their winning tradition and are back on track after their down side Covid-19 year. Shawnee wasted no time getting on the scoreboard quickly scoring 14 unanswered points. <em>Senior QB Matt Wesley (Shawnee) </em>had a great performance. Wesley went 18 for 23 , 350 yards and 3 TDs. Wesley managed to throw touchdown passes to three different receivers. Also, credit to his lineman for allowing Wesley to sit in the pocket comfortably. Shawnee will move on to Group 4 finals to face Winslow Township.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>South Jersey, Group 1 </strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Gloucester 14 at Paulsboro 20</strong></span>
Paulsboro wins a tough fought battle against Gloucester. The tough rushing attack led by<em> Senior RB Ameer Bateman (Paulsboro) </em>did everything he could to help his team. Bateman carried the ball 42 times for 218 yards and a score. Bateman was a work horse, doing everything he could to help his team. Credit to Gloucester who has a very good running back <em>Senior RB Steven Burkhardt</em> <em>(Gloucester)</em> who is a very good athlete. Respectively, both teams played well but Paulsboro simply wanted it more. Paulsboro will face familiar foe Salem Friday night in the Group 1 finals. These two met earlier in the year as Paulsboro won 25-17.
<span style="font-size: 18pt;"><strong>South Jersey, Group 1</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Pennsgrove 23 at Woodbury 44 </strong></span>
Woodbury beat Pennsgrove to reach their first Group 1 final appearance since 2012. Pennsgrove jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first but Woodbury answered with 20 points in the second quarter. <em>Junior QB [player_tooltip player_id="214415" first="Bryan" last="Johnson"] (Woodbury</em>) had a great day under center going 23 for 33, 283 yards and 2 TDs. Johnson made good decisions with the football and did not turn it over. Also, <em>Senior RB Theordore Lockhart (Woodbury)</em> was productive on the ground and as a pass catcher. Lockhart had 17 carries for 90 yards a score and 2 receptions for 43 yards. Woodbury will need to deliver this same performance if not better on Friday night against Woodstown in the Group 1 final matchup.
