However, the Spartans’ defense scored as many points as they gave up with two defensive touchdowns. Here are the players who were key on the defensive side of the ball.
Lano Oduwaiye Simley DL
Oduwaiye made a tackle for a short gain. On fourth and short, he stuffed a quarterback draw. His immediate penetration stuffed an inside run for a short gain. He had about the most dominant four-play sequence as a defensive lineman can have. First, his inside pass rush resulted in a sack. On the next play, he was immediately in the backfield for another sack. Two plays later, his outside pass rush resulted in his third sack in four plays.
Josh Painter Simley DB
Painter had tight coverage on a deep throw down the sidelines. He hit the defensive hat trick with a tackle in the open field that forced a fumble. He completed the sequence by recovering the fumble.
Derrick Dohman Simley LB
Dohman made a tackle on the outside for no gain. Later, he made an open-field tackle on the outside on a pass into the flat.
Tey’Vion McCoy Simley DB
McCoy had tight coverage on a deep ball. He intercepted an overthrown ball and showed his athletic ability by adding a 20-yard return. On nearly an identical play, he grabbed another over-thrown pass – this time returning it for a pick-six.
Dom Levros Simley DB
The safety undercut an out route for a 25-yard pick-six. Later, Levros showed he is not just a coverage guy with an open-field tackle for a short gain.
Koffi Medeko Koffi Medeko ATH MN Simley DL
Medeko was a problem inside for the Force offense all game. He helped keep the linebackers clean and was on the Force’s side of the line of scrimmage most of the afternoon. He made at least three tackles for a short loss or short gain during the victory.
