As opposed to traditional game reporting, I will break down this star-studded game by each side of the ball, highlighting prospects who produced or excelled in their roles.
Interboro
Abu Kamara | 6’0, 175 | ATH | 2023
Zakee Brooks | ATH | 2022
Robert Forbes | 6’0, 170 | RB/LB | 2022
The final score in this one may lead you to believe that Interboro was handled pretty easily by WCR. That honestly wouldn’t be too far-fetched as WCR came into this game as the number one seed in their District One bracket. The Buccs put forth an incredible effort last weekend and for a while, had Rustin in a precarious situation. In the end, Rustin handled business, but not without working for it.
We must begin with junior Bucc Abubakarr Kamara. I had heard rumbles of this kid all season and was sure to keep an eye out for him as the season progressed. His stellar production continued week in and week out, eventually leading to me realizing I had to see the kid in person. I couldn’t resist the matchup and was highly impressed with the kid after this game. The first thing that should be said isn’t anything discussing his athletic ability. Kamara showed massive effort play in and play out, as did the rest of his teammates. Rallying to the football, sideline to sideline on defense, playing to the whistle, these kids wanted it! Again, that goes for all of Interboro.
As far as Kamara the player, he solidified himself as one of the best players in his class that hasn’t been offered yet, along with multiple talented kids in the Del-Val League. He played that well. Offensively, Kamara can be heavily relied on. He took the bulk of the carries, as well as receiving the bulk of targets through the air. He didn’t falter. Impressive overall awareness. His open-field awareness is at the college level and I don’t throw that around often. He plays a lot bigger than 6’0 but seemingly has a running back gait when touting the rock. His playstyle is certainly unique, his build is definitely that of a wideout or defensive back. He’s got the hands, separation speed, and ball tracking ability to become a serious outside lane weapon for a program at the next level. The toughness is there too. I’ll be real, not too many kids could slow down Dayshawn Jacobs Dayshawn Jacobs 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Rustin | 2022 State PA , let alone tackle him in the open field. Kamara was up for that task and more! Kamara came up with a ridiculous catch in double coverage 40+ yards downfield. A clutch play I might add, he also came up with a huge interception and great run back as well. I see plenty of prospects who can play and contribute both ways, but not many who can make a serious impact on both sides of the ball especially against a one-seed. He’s going to debut on our junior rankings for sure.
Some teammates of Kamara’s also impressed me. Zakee Brooks was quiet for a little but then got involved in the passing game and came up with some solid grabs for positive yardage. I would love to see more of him in the open field and maybe break down some of his tape in the future.
Robert Forbes is another name that drew me out to see this matchup. This kid is officially on my radar and hopefully, I can dig up more footage on the senior to possibly add him to our final senior rankings.
West Chester Rustin
Daimon Jacobs | 5’10, 185 | DB/ATH | 2023
Dayshawn Jacobs Dayshawn Jacobs 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Rustin | 2022 State PA | 5’9, 170 | RB/ATH | 2022
Anthony Meadows Anthony Meadows 6'1" | 225 lbs | LB Bayard Rustin | 2022 State PA | 6’1, 225 | LB | 2022
Chris Yanko | DL/ATH | 2022
Carter Bucci | 5’10, 230 | OL | 2022
Congrats to West Chester Rustin on a hard-fought playoff victory!
Similar to Abu Kamara, Dayshawn Jacobs Dayshawn Jacobs 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Rustin | 2022 State PA was a name I kept hearing about before the season. Before finalizing our Summer Rankings update, I decided to give Dayshawn’s film a look and I was blown away as to how I didn’t know about the kid. He is our second-highest debuting senior in early Prep Redzone PA history! His debut rank was high, yet somehow he has surpassed even that ranking after the show he put on all year. His stock continues to climb, as I predict he will be a top-100 senior this December.
All of this praise is deserved. This kid was electric from start to finish. Despite Rustin’s inability to cash in and pull away, Dayshawn was still gashing the Interboro defense for chunks and chunks a clip. Incredibly tough and durable back. He ran with the same torque, and attitude all the way from beginning to end. His ability to seek home runs on almost every carry is noteworthy. This running style takes a toll on a defense and one missed assignment or missed tackle can cost you 75+ yards. That’s what to expect when you line up across Dayshawn Jacobs Dayshawn Jacobs 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Rustin | 2022 State PA , a determined back who is more than willing to run through you as well as passed you. His frame isn’t necessarily ideal for a rough downhill style of play, yet he can provide that. Where he clearly excels is in the open field where he can show off his absolutely elite acceleration. His ability to hit a second and third gear is up there with any prospect in PA. I mean that. His play is demoralizing to opposing defenders, coaches, and parents. Sitting on the away side so you have to trust me! This is a payer who I expect to test well when the time comes. I’m uncertain of his recruitment status but that has to change. I think the kid is without a doubt FCS worthy, more so leaning towards him potentially being a G5 player. One peak at his tape will show that.
Shout out to Carter Bucci and the rest of the offensive line for opening things up for Jacobs. I was impressed by his play and want to see more of this entire offensive line group. If your back puts up numbers like this, you also need to be looked at!
Daimon Jacobs is another stud on this one-seeded program. I truly mean stud, don’t let the 185 fool you. When this kid meets you in the trenches or in the secondary, he’s hitting you with every pound in his body. Watching the game live, I would periodically see an Interboro player gain some yards through the trenches, hit the second level, and see a flash on the field. Then the whistle. Every time it was Daimon Jacobs flying from his safety spot to make a first-down saving tackle. This kid is chiseled out and wants to hunt. Believe it or not, there was one play that stood out to me among all defenders in this one. To the casual viewer, it was a seemingly eventless play. I saw Daimon start opposite hash with a run play being called away from his side. Daimon diagnosed the run effortlessly, glided through traffic, and with his head on fire beat the ball carrier to the spot and bring him down with all of his speed, and hit power behind his pads. It was an incredible run stuff. This kid is unranked but with his run-stopping ability and play diagnosis, that’ll change.
Anthony Meadows Anthony Meadows 6'1" | 225 lbs | LB Bayard Rustin | 2022 State PA needs to be held to the same standard as each of the Jacobs brothers. He’s another menace on the Rustin defense, and it’s easy to see with one look at the middle linebacker. Daimon was a flash but Meadows was a consistent thud in the middle. He did all the dirty work and clawed for every tackle. Multiple TFL’s. Athletic enough LB who is well-equipped to be engaged on every play. High motor. Great overall tackler. Kisses the football and had one of the more consistent nights of any prospect on this list. He looks very natural manning the middle. Would love to see how he plays passing lanes.
Chris Yanko was legitimately a name I hadn’t heard of before the game. I knew his name after. Going to games live is so important for this reason exactly. Sometimes, prospects without Hudl’s, Twitter’s, or coach-driven exposure get lost in the recruiting game. There’s a myriad of reasons why this could happen. All that being said, I am now a big fan of this kid’s game! Love what he provided on both sides of the ball. Think he may have a future at a collegiate level if his film and grades at up.
