Rossville (11-0) blitzed Riverton (8-3) last Friday, using a two-quarterback system to work Torrey Horak Torrey Horak 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH Rossville | 2022 State KS back into the mix slowly. Horak has been out since the last time Rossville and Silver Lake faced off, about a month ago. (Rossville won that meeting 24-19). Horak performed well in his return, but it was backup quarterback/starting tailback Corey Catron who led the Bulldogs to the runaway win. The senior Catron scored four touchdowns Friday. The Bulldogs don’t throw it a ton, but especially with Horak back, they can effectively move the ball through the air. Kade Perine is a junior wideout who is athletic and tough. He has 21 catches for 397 yards this season. Senior Tagen Kippes has added 20 receptions for 261 yards and 4 scores.
Silver Lake (9-2) upset Wellsville (10-0) with the benefit of a home field advantage. Wellsville is a diverse and talented team that the Eagles’ defense contained, winning 33-27. Daigan Kruger Daigan Kruger 5'10" | 185 lbs | QB Silver Lake | 2022 State KS was his remarkable self, completing 20 throws for 271 despite near-freezing temperatures. Kruger was a playmaker on the defensive side as well. Brogan Renfro showed he can be a real threat as a receiver out of the backfield, scoring the Eagles’ first two touchdowns on wheel routes. Kamryn Kaniper hasn’t put up standout numbers this season, but he was huge in the second half as Kruger’s go-to receiver. Kaniper is big, athletic and sure handed. He hauled in 7 passes for 104 yards when the Eagles had to move the sticks. Wideout Troy Heiman added 6 catches for 95 yards.
The Eagles and Bulldogs will meet for the second time this season at Rossville Friday night. The winner will advance to the 2A finals in Salina to face the winner of Beloit and Kingman.
