The state playoffs in Arkansas continued this past Friday night. We had the opportunity to witness some great team performances as well as plenty of individual performances last Friday. The teams that were impressing us earlier in the season have advance into the third round of the state playoffs. Let’s take a look at the teams and players that were impressive last Friday night.
Looking first, at the 7-A Conference, the Bryant Hornets continue to be the powerhouse program it has always been. Last Friday, the Bryant Hornets ended an impressive season from the Northside Grizzlies. The Hornets rolled to a 42-10 victory over a talented Fort Smith Northside team. Bryant will take on another central Arkansas powerhouse this Friday night when they take on the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats. Bryant wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="166998" first="Mytorian" last="Singleton"] has become a dangerous deep threat that can take the ball the distance from anywhere on the field.
Meanwhile, in the 7-A West the Fayetteville Bulldogs continued a strong season with a come from behind victory over the Cabot Panthers. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75105" first="Bladen" last="Fike"] and a strong receiving corps led by [player_tooltip player_id="94925" first="Jalen" last="Blackburn"] and Isaiah Satenga have helped the Bulldogs stay in every game. However, the Fayetteville defense led by [player_tooltip player_id="120372" first="Cade" last="Fields"], [player_tooltip player_id="75075" first="Kaiden" last="Turner"], and [player_tooltip player_id="127245" first="Ryan" last="Maxwell"] have terrorized opposing quarterbacks this season. Fayetteville will host the Conway Wampus Cats in a repeat of a matchup from earlier in the season.
The 6-A Conference has seen plenty of exciting action in the playoffs up to this point. No one seems to be surprised that Little Rock Parkview will take on the Greenwood Bulldogs this Friday night. Both teams have plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Little Rock Parkview has talented quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="117318" first="Jaylon" last="White"] who can hurt you running or throwing the football. Meanwhile, the Greenwood Bulldogs have [player_tooltip player_id="160308" first="Hunter" last="Houston"] at the quarterback spot, who can light up the opposing secondary when he is on a hot streak. This matchup has the makings of being one that will come right down to the wire on Friday night.
On the other side of the 6-A bracket, one of the most unexpected matchups in the playoffs will be Marion paying a visit to El Dorado. Both Marion and El Dorado come into this matchup playing good football. Marion will look for quarterback Ben Gerrard to continue to lead the offense effectively. However, the El Dorado offense has plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball including [player_tooltip player_id="75112" first="Jackie" last="Washington"], [player_tooltip player_id="153818" first="Sharmon" last="Rester"], [player_tooltip player_id="75129" first="DeAndra" last="Burns"] Jr., and [player_tooltip player_id="141724" first="Kamron" last="Bibby"]. Plenty of points could be scored in this one on Friday night.
Looking at the 5-A Conference, the natural instinct is to immediately pencil in Pulaski Academy. The Bruins are having another strong season and even with new head coach Anthony Lucas running the show, the Bruins offense may be even more explosive. [player_tooltip player_id="168255" first="Charlie" last="Fiser"] and [player_tooltip player_id="153937" first="Jaylin" last="McKinney"] make an explosive quarterback-wide receiver combination for the Bruins. Pulaski Academy will take on the Greenbrier Panthers this Friday night. The Panthers will need a big game from [player_tooltip player_id="134230" first="Nick" last="Huett"] on Friday to keep the Panthers advancing in the playoffs. The winner of this matchup will meet the winner of White Hall and Little Rock Christian.
