With the season and playoffs coming to a close, I’m excited to start a new weekly segment called #OLinePride. In these segments I will be spotlighting stories from the trenches and bring you the most up to date linemen specific updates.

Starting our highlight off this week is the Parish Episcopal offensive line. This group has dominated every opponent they’ve seen in private school ball this year. Fresh off of a statement victory against Bishop Lynch, the panthers are returning to the state title game. Some of the stand out offensive linemen thus far have been 2024 OG Sam Liu , Jacob Pequeno, and 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="131980" first="Aidan" last="Gilmore"] to name a few.

To start with, team Captian Sam Liu is a guy that has popped on tape. Sam has been a physical force, and has helped set the tone for the Panthers all year. Another interesting prospect who has shown well has been class of 2024 Right Tackle Jacob Pequeno. Jacob is a physical, hard-nosed blocker with a very high football IQ. Jacob plays the game with a old-school offensive linemen’s mentality and is not afraid to stick his nose in there and mix things up. His match-up on the edge will be a difference maker and one to watch in the upcoming title bout. The whole offensive line has played stellar this season but the last stand out that impressed me was Aiden Gilmore. In the game vs Nolan catholic, he displayed a mean streak and showed flashes of great finish. From my observations, Aiden is a competitor who plays with an edge and can be seen on tape constantly trying to finish his assignment. These big fellas have helped pave a way for their running back [player_tooltip player_id="60796" first="Andrew" last="Paul"] to put up video game numbers and they are locked in to help their unit bring another state championship back to Parish.

Next up, we have a class of 2025 offensive linemen with big talent and a huge heart to match. Fourteen-year-olds aren’t usually 6’8, 360 lbs. However, offensive linemen Byron Washington out of Desoto High School is an uncommon person, player, and leader. The stout offensive linemen is fresh off a bevy of unofficial visits with the last to Oklahoma State University. The freshman OL reportedly had a great time in Stillwater watching the Cowboys route TCU 63-17. However, what is the most impressive about Byron is that he is a committed student and teacher of the game. He was recently seen on social media taking time to run his own offensive line-specific clinic in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana. While visiting back home he took the time out of his schedule to work with some of the local talent in Monroe. This act of kindness and attention to detail epitomizes what OLine Pride represents. As an offensive lineman, you innately have to be smart, tough, reliable, and dependable. These characteristics epitomize & personify who Byron is. Being able to display that level of focus and commitment to his craft at fourteen years old is what will make him successful on and off the field. To go along with his good deeds and efforts off the field Byron capped off this year with a successful body of work on the field. With his blend of heart, size, and coachability I expect big things out of the talented Desoto eagle.
