MS All-Star Evals: LB’s
The LB roster for the MAC MS-AL All-Star game is a stout group of five guys that are well known throughout the state. Let’s look at a breakdown of each.
Keon Cunningham Keon Cunningham 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB West Point | 2022 State MS | West Point
West Point football is built on strength and power principles, specifically on the defensive side of the football. With that said they have their point man in Cunningham. Cunningham flies to the football and plays great laterally and in space. Lean frame allows him freedom of movement. Potential to play in the secondary at the next level with his current build. Cunningham has been a key to the Green Wave remaining dominant in Region 1-5A.
Jaharon Griffin Jaharon Griffin 6'0" | 230 lbs | LB Neshoba Central | 2022 State MS | Neshoba Central
Big things were expected out of Griffin coming into the 2021 campaign and he has not disappointed. The thickly built LB plays downhill with sheer strength and wins with power. Griffin has led the Rocket defense with 70 tackles so far on the year, 13.5 of those being for loss. Neshoba Central sits comfortably at 10-0 on the year and that is due in part to the leadership of Griffin on the defensive side.
Zy Ford Zy Ford 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB East Webster | 2022 State MS | East Webster
Louisiana Tech secured a commitment from Ford in August and a dynamic 2021 season has followed suit for the future Bulldog. 106 tackles and 16 TFL’s have boosted Ford’s name throughout the southern part of the U.S. Elite range and lateral movement are the two top qualities of Ford’s game. Good understanding of the defense and ability to contribute in pass coverage immediately jump off the tape. Long term potential at the LB spot is present with the star in 2A-North.
Mario Wilbourn Mario Wilbourn 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Lafayette County | 2022 State MS | Lafayette County
The Lafayette County defense is loaded in North, MS and Wilbourn is a definite reason why. Holding down the MLB position for going on two years, Wilbourn is the type of guy that gets in on every tackle. An elite motor is one of the best qualities with the Lafayette County LB and it turns on for each and every game. Stout, compact build that is made for the LB position as he continues to mature. Good length. At his best playing downhill. Good get for Southern Miss.
Khalid Moore Khalid Moore 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Poplarville | 2022 State MS | Poplarville
Moore’s frame just screams potential. Looks physically like he could step on an SEC field and contribute today. A huge stat line for Moore in 2021 features: 66 tackles, 10 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. Projects as an outside linebacker at the next level with enough athleticism to win on the edge boundaries. Good length and eyes from the LB position gets him in correct position to make plays. Mississippi State commitment.
