There will be a new champion in Class 3 this year after Mexico upset Blair Oaks last week. There are only eight teams left and of those, only two have won a championship in the past: Seneca and St. Pius X (Kansas City).
<strong>Friday Games
No. 1 St. Mary’s at No. 7 Central (Park Hills) </strong>
Central won its ninth straight game by beating Kennett, 51-14, last week. The Rebels got five total TDs from [player_tooltip player_id="222435" first="Jett" last="Bridges"]. He has touchdown passes for 46, 55 and 66 yards, while running in scores of 24 and 25 yards (<a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2GQMtd">http://www.hudl.com/v/2GQMtd</a>) … St. Mary’s reached the Class 4 semifinals in 2019 but lost to Platte County. To have a chance to return to the semifinals, the Dragons blasted No. 2-ranked Valle Catholic, 55-7, last week to win their eighth straight. Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id="172435" first="Caron" last="Spann"] was perfect last week against Valle, going 11-for-11 for 358 yards and 6 TDs. Junior WR [player_tooltip player_id="37684" first="Chase" last="Hendricks"] had five catches for 181 yards and scored four times.
<strong>No. 3 St. Pius X at Pleasant Hill </strong>
A runner-up last year in Class 2, Pius is one win away from getting back to the semifinals. The Warriors beat Chillicothe for the second time this season, the latest 31-6, holding a Hornets team that averaged more than 300 yards a game on the ground to 102. Senior LB Shane Dorian (<a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/14861841/shane-dorian">https://www.hudl.com/profile/14861841/shane-dorian) </a>had 10 tackles for the Warriors (10-1) and added a touchdown run as well. He recently took a visit to NAIA school Baker ... Pleasant Hill beat Summit Christian, 33-29, to advance to the quarterfinals with a 7-5 record. Junior RB [player_tooltip player_id="217654" first="Dylan" last="Kauffman"] accounted for 141 yards and 2 TDs. He also had two catches for 38 yards.
<strong>Saturday Games
Mexico at Seneca</strong>
Sophomore RB/LB Jackson Marrs (<a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/11685337/Jackson-Marrs">https://www.hudl.com/profile/11685337/Jackson-Marrs</a>) had been solid on both sides of the ball for Seneca. He has 100 tackles, one sack and has ran for 1,313 yards at 16 TDs. He is one of two 1,000-yard rushers for the Indians, as Jaxson Graham has 1,172 yards. Seneca beat Mountain Grove, 24-18, last week to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013, when it was the Class 3 runner-up. ... Mexico knocked off defending Class 3 champion Blair Oaks, 49-14. Senior Michael White had 191 yards on the ground and 5 TDs and had two interceptions (<a href="http://www.hudl.com/v/2GPQWe">http://www.hudl.com/v/2GPQWe) </a>Junior Anthony Shivers had 107 yards and a score, while grabbing an interception as well.
<strong>Owensville at Cardinal Ritter </strong>
Cardinal Ritter freshman Jamorian Parker (<a href="http://<a href="https://fox2now.com/sports/prep-zone/cardinal-ritter-edges-lutheran-north-for-district-crown/"></a>">http://<a href="https://fox2now.com/sports/prep-zone/cardinal-ritter-edges-lutheran-north-for-district-crown/"></a>) </a>scored a 25-yard touchdown with less than 3 1/2 minutes that proved to be the game winner, 20-18, against No. 5 Lutheran North. ... Owensville got a 4-TD, 180-yard effort from senior running back Austin Lowder. He added three tackles, 1 TFL and 1 sack on defense. Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id="96132" first="Brendan" last="Decker"] ran for 104 yards and a TD and threw for 134 yards, 1 TD.
