Lansing Area 2nd Round Playoff Matchups to Watch

<strong>Olivet (8-2) vs Portland (8-2)</strong> Portland had one of the biggest wins of the regular season when they upset DeWitt. Both of Portland’s losses this season have come by a combined 5 points. Portland is a team that can run the football very effectively. Portland’s quarterback <strong>Haden Getchell</strong> has been crucial to the success of this offense. Getchell has been one of the best competitors I have seen this season. He is exactly the type of player you want in a big playoff game like this. The skill positions are very good for Portland. <strong>Caden Galey</strong> has been consistently good on both sides of the football for Portland. He is a great running back who Portland likes to get the ball to in a variety of different ways. Olivet has had a great season thus far with their only two losses coming to Charlotte in the opening game and then to Pewamo-Westphalia 14-26 in week 6. <strong>Clay Flower</strong> is Olivet’s starting quarterback who had a great game in the opening game against Charlotte. Flowers threw for 287 yards and 4 touchdowns. Olivet has several other good players on offense in wide receivers <strong>Dalton Tobias </strong>&amp; <strong>Ramsey Bousseau.</strong> With two tough physical defenses and offenses that can really move the ball it will be interesting to see how many points will be put on the board. <strong>Mount Pleasant (10-0) vs DeWitt (9-1)</strong> The Mount Pleasant Oilers are having a fantastic season. They are a proud football program that has been competitive for a long time. Junior running back <strong>Max Humphrey </strong>has been great for Mount Pleasant this season. He is just one of the multiple great running backs they have on the team. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="99296" first="Kory" last="Davis"] </strong>is the another running back Mount Pleasant will feature in this game. Davis is a tough runner who does not go down easily. The Mount Pleasant run game versus the DeWitt defense will be a matchup to keep an eye on in this game. For DeWitt, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="93776" first="Bryce" last="Debri"] </strong>is one of DeWitt’s key playmakers. Debri has shined in big games this season and looks to continue that trend this upcoming Friday. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="30211" first="Tommy" last="McIntosh"] </strong>is a go-to target at wide receiver for DeWitt’s quarterback <strong>Tyler Holtz</strong>. McIntosh and Holtz connection has created problems for every opponent this season. Mount Pleasant’s defense slowing them down will be critical to them having success in this game. This is the best time of the year for high school football. There is nothing like the intensity of a high school football playoff game. The weather is getting colder and games like this have a tendency for the tougher times to really shine. It is great to see teams from around the state getting a chance to battle it out. You can start to see which are the tougher conferences. These games should be great games that will feature a ton of good players.
