FARGO, ND-- After a long week off with a common cold finally gone and out of my system, I wrap up my Big Dogs for the Dakota Bowl starting now in 11B as we will work tirelessly in the next day or so to get you the Big Dogs of the Game all the way to 11AA when its all said and done.
We roll into the North Dakota 11B state championship game between the Kindred Vikings (11-1) vs. Hillsboro-Central Valley (11-1). It would be the Vikings getting revenge from their only loss on the season coming in Week 2 to the Burros but both teams had some great competitors that we listed our Big Dogs of the Game. To our count we have gathered 11 prospects to our list of Big Dogs of the Game between the Vikings and the Burros.
[player_tooltip player_id="151178" first="Jack" last="Paulsrud"] | Linebacker | Hillsboro-Central Valley | 2022
Paulsrud was a certified ball hawk in the first quarter for the Burros. He was in on the bulk of the big plays the Vikings had from scrimmage on Friday afternoon. He does a solid job with his vision attacking the open gaps inside without having to deal with much contact from the offensive front. His speed is strong enough to be a sideline to sideline linebacker that can cover with good stamina and a high contact level. In my eyes, Paulsrud should a be a small school gem coming out of the Burros program.

Peter Dryburgh | OLB/TE | Hillsboro-Central Valley | 2023
Dryburgh was a prospect that kept fighting even when the Burros were just about down and out in the 4th quarter. It was his pick six in the fourth quarter that would be the only mistake from Kindred QB [player_tooltip player_id="151179" first="Max" last="McQuillan"] on the day and his only incompletion you would see on his stat sheet on the day. Dryburgh was also one of the Burros top tacklers from the second level of the field on Friday afternoon. Dryburgh in my eyes with some update film could be a college prospect next year, as on tape I like the way he moves at 6’3 210 pounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="174168" first="Riley" last="Sunram"] | DL/OL | Kindred | 2024
The biggest stockriser from both defensive fronts on Friday afternoon by far was sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="174168" first="Riley" last="Sunram"] of Kindred. The way this young man sealed the gaps for the entirety of the game against the Burros rushing attack was phenomenal and in my eyes, played well above his age as far his skill set goes. What made Sunram so effective was how strong has hand swipes were to get around the offensive line and get to the ball carrier inside. I zoomed in on many ocassions just to watch how effective this sophomore was with his hands on Friday afternoon. I said it last Friday, I can already tell Riley has college football in his future as he already has a solid frame for just a sophomore, and will only get stronger with two more seasons of work.

Colin Lunde | DL|OL | Kindred | 2022
When your top two defensive linemen are the top dogs in the tackles department, that’s pretty good sign that you stopped the run really well which Colin Lunde was in his final game as a Kindred Viking. Lunde was a defensive end prospect that played bigger than his measurables read and was really effective working his feet to show excellent athleticsm attacking the rushing attack of the Burros. I also loved watching his big motor he carried with him during the game as he was really active around the ball and showed great longevity for the duration of the game. I couldn’t locate film on this young man, but he went out with a bang as a state champion in 11B.
Jace Leshuk | LB/RB | Hillsboro-Central Valley | 2022
Leshuk was the only double-digit tackler in last Friday’s state championship game from both sides. Jace is a well-reactive linebacker that can change gears quickly moving from coverage to clinging to where the football is. He also has a quick shed off his blocks. His biggest development is on his tackling, as he struggles at times to finish on his tackles especially when going low on the ball carrier. Leshuk is another Burros prospect that could land at the NAIA level somehwere in North Dakota based on his skillsets on both sides and a pretty well put together frame (6’0 185).

[player_tooltip player_id="151179" first="Max" last="McQuillan"] | QB | Kindred | 2022
It was a near perfect outing from the Vikings QB [player_tooltip player_id="151179" first="Max" last="McQuillan"] last Friday afternoon at the Fargo Dome. He completed a whopping 92% of his passes (12/13) and nearly 200 yards passing on two touchdowns. McQuillan showed off a quick release with some great added touch on the football. With have such size at 6’5, McQuillan was effective on the QB draw by putting his head down and had the will to push inside for extra yards with contact and his length. He ended his high school football career with everything you could want, a state championship and performing at a high level that could produce nicely at the college level with some development on his quarterback mechanics.

Biggest Dog & MVP
Trey Heinrich | RB | Kindred | 2023
Heinrich gets my nod for game MVP and the biggest dog of the game. Heinrich exploded for over 200 yards of total offense with three total touchdowns from scrimmage. He showed extremely loose hips when making his move from side to side. Heinrich also showed terrific vision on the afternoon and was patient to let the gaps open up before hitting his spots between the tackles. He showed off terrific burst when seeing the outside lane he wanted for the end zone and long-range stamina to keep his foot the gas the entirety of the game. Heinrich has certainly came on fire especially late in the season based on the film I’ve watched and that has to open up the eyes of the Division II level as I feel Heinrich would be a terrifc additon to the Northern Sun conference much like his brother, Eli who plays football at the University of Mary.

[player_tooltip player_id="101158" first="Cole" last="Hebl"] | LB/FB | Hillsboro-Central Valley | 2023
5.5 tackles. Hebl is a ranked 2023 prospect by Prep Redzone Dakotas at linebacker.
Game Tape
Jordyn Sunram | Kicker | Kindred | 2022
4/5 on extra points, and made a 27-yard field goal which for sure had extra distance for at least 40 yards. She showed off some great hangtime on a high amount of her extra points. Two-sport athlete this fall for the Vikings.
Parker Gallagher | Punter/DB | Hillsboro-Central Valley | 2022
Three punts, (40 yards per punt). Also had five tackles to his resume in his final game as a Burro.
Jacob Hiatt | DB/WR | Kindred | 2022
Key interception for the Vikings.
