Grosse Pointe South vs. De La Salle Recruiting Recap
The playoffs bring out a sense of intensity that the viewer can’t feel unless they are present. At Warren Fitzgerald on Friday night, that intensity was on display as De La Salle hosted Grosse Pointe South in week two of the MHSAA playoffs.
It was a physical matchup that the Pilots won in the trenches. Both teams have some tough players on the inside, with playmaking outside that is a treat to watch. The Blue Devils came out stout against the run game, De La Salle’s strong suit offensively. That set the tone for the rest of the game, and it was exciting to watch.
De La Salle ended up winning 35-20 after utilizing the run game late. The Blue Devils of Grosse Pointe South played their hearts out, and the score is not a reflection of how close it was until late in fourth.
As a scout, you want to see players tested physically to see how they react. It’s a different game when the physicality is notched up, and both teams displayed plenty of it. Here are some of the many standouts from Friday’s week two playoff showdown.
Mason Muragin

De La Salle | 2023

Great frame and strength for a defensive end. Physical enough to compete inside and mix it up in the run game but has the athleticism to rush the passer well. Should be getting much more attention than he is in the recruiting world.

Brady Drogosh

De La Salle | 2023
State
MI
The toughest player on the field last night between both teams may have been Drogosh. He runs the ball like a tight end and doesn't shy away from taking a hit. His arm has gotten better weekly and he should be a name to watch among the extremely talented quarterback class in 2023.

The Michigan commit ended his high school career with a dominant game. Johnson had 2 touchdowns on the night with an added seven tackles in his natural position, cornerback. The sky is the limit for the senior as we await his first snaps in Ann Arbor.

Joey Klunder Joey Klunder 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Grosse Pointe South | 2022 State MI
Another Blue Devil headed to Ann Arbor next year, Klunder played a big part in the physicality displayed Friday night. As strong a player he is, I have been surprised by his athleticism in the two times I saw him play in person this season. He can do a little bit of everything on the defensive line.

Rhett Roeser

De La Salle | 2024
State
MI
It is still shocking to see that Roeser is only a sophomore. Everything from his movement to his vision is impressive. A star on the baseball diamond as well, Roeser will continue to get interest from colleges regarding both sports. Expect him to be ranked next month in the 2024 rankings update.

Donovan Moody Donovan Moody 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Grosse Pointe South | 2023 MI
A perfect blend of size and quickness at the linebacker position, Moody should be one of the main pieces in Grosse Pointe Souths plans next season. He can run the ball well offensively along with utilizing his vision to seek out ball carriers.

Will Beesley Will Beesley 5'11" | 205 lbs | DB De La Salle | 2022 State MI
Arguably a top linebacker in the state this season, Beesley puts on a show of technique every week. He's smart, engaged, and one of the senior leaders on that Pilots defense. Stacking and shedding is a strong suit of the senior linebackers game. The Princeton commit is looking to add one more piece of hardware to his collection before he moves on.

Kadin Featherstone Kadin Featherstone 6'2" | 265 lbs | OL De La Salle | 2022 State MI
The Pilots rushing attack relies on the driving force of players like Featherstone. The interior lineman has a big anchor along with his ability to stay square when coming off the ball. Saint Norbert is one of the schools that have offered the offensive lineman.

D.J. Dandridge
D.J.
Dandridge
5'10" | 175 lbs | DB
De La Salle | 2022
State
MI
The Pilots secondary had to be dominant to end the game verses South, and Dandridge was. He is a player who can rely on great instincts and excellent balance. He rarely loses a step and does a nice job of coming back to the ball in coverage.
