Since the new millennium times haven’t been so great in Lincoln, but there’s always a sense of optimism when looking at the state’s crop of young talent.
Today we’re looking at five class of 2026 athletes from the state of Nebraska that have impressed me in the film that I’ve seen. The scariest part of this, is that these athletes all play on the same championship-winning team in Nebraska. Scott Frost and crew may want to get started early on recruiting these young man.
DaShawn Prince DaShawn Prince 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Omaha Central | 2026 State NE | Wide Receiver
There’s absolutely no substitute for size, and that’s one of the biggest things Prince brings to the table. At 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds, he’s a mismatch on the outside for the rest of the state. Where it’s more common for bigger receivers in some football hotbeds, Prince sticks out in Nebraska because he towers over defensive backs. Also does a nice job of attacking the ball at its highest point.
Jermaine Dortch | Athlete
One of my favorite 2026 players I’ve seen thus far, I’m a big fan of the brand of football that Dortch plays on both sides of the ball. As a running back, he hits the hole hard and definitively. Defensively he played outside linebacker this year, but to me he looks like a nickel at the next level. A state champion in wrestling, Dortch is devastating tackler who punishes the guys he tackles
Kylonn Haynie Kylonn Haynie 5'10" | 200 lbs | ATH Omaha Central | 2027 NE | Running Back
Haynie is a running back with a very, very high ceiling as he concludes his middle school football days. He has every he needs to be a difference maker on the next level from size to speed and unquestioned explosion. He’s a do-it-all type of running back who has the speed to break runs outside but also the power to bang in the trenches.
Birdh Murrell Birdh Murrell LB Omaha North | 2026 NE | Running Back
While not the biggest dude in the world right now, Murrell is a speedster and picks up a ton of yards. Undersized but a fairly well-built, all-purpose back that relies on his speed to bounce runs outside. He’s explosive laterally and only needs a small opening to burst through to make a big play happen.
Avry Harris | Wide Receiver
A burner on the outside, Harris is a receiver prospect I look forward to watching develop as he enters high school. Harris is a dangerous weapon in the short to intermediate passing game because of his ability to create after the catch. Has exceptional ability to juke and make people miss in a phone booth. Has started to develop dangers straight line speed as well.
