Eastside @ Bishop Luers Offensive Highlights

The 2 star loaded teams met up on Friday and they did not disappoint. The 11-0 Eastside Blazers went at it against the 10-1 Bishop Luers Knights and this game surpassed expectations. This piece is going to be a bit different than normal but it’s the only way to analyze the game properly on offense. Bishop Luers came out and game-planned it perfectly. They knew they were huge underdogs facing the multi-time state champs. The game plan was simple. Steal a few possessions with onside kicks and run the ball with [player_tooltip player_id="98073" first="Laban" last="Davis"] (Eastside QB - 6’0" 185 lbs) and have him throw just enough to keep Luers honest. They controlled the clock and drained Bishop Luers mentally. Davis made plays all night. Every time they needed something to happen he made it happen. Whether it was rolling to the right and somehow finding a lane or an open receiver, he didn't miss. He was dialed in and the confidence he radiated throughout the stadium was electric. He didn't throw very much on the night because he didn't need to but when he did, he didn't miss. Davis and [player_tooltip player_id="185538" first="Dax" last="Holman"] (Eastside - RB - 5’11" 173 lbs) gashed Bishop Luers all night. They demoralized Luers in the second quarter where the Blazers took an 11-minute TD drive where they went for it on every 4th down. They set the tone early. They sucked the defense in with the read-option. They bled the clock and kept the ball away. They kept the ball in Davis’s hand and just let him make plays. Eastside didn’t have to throw much as Davis and Holman suffocated Luers early in the night. However, [player_tooltip player_id="98092" first="Carson" last="Clark"] (Bishop Luers - QB - 6’2" 180 lbs) and Sir Hale (Bishop Luers - RB - 5’7" 165 lbs) did not go out quietly. They stormed back in the second half when they got the ball. There was a 3 possession lead and they got to work. 3 straight plays Clark launched it deep to [player_tooltip player_id="175710" first="Brody" last="Glenn"] (Bishop Luers - WR - 6’1" 175 lbs) and they connected on 1 for a TD. They struck right back and made a statement. They closed the gap and got a stop. On the first play from the drive, Sir Hale took a screen pass and busted it wide open. He raced down to the 15-yard line. Luers drew up a trick play where Glenn found Antwian Lake (Bishop Luers - WR - 5’10" 170 lbs) wide open in the back of the endzone to make it 21-16. Luers would go for the onside kick with seconds remaining and Eastside recovered. Eastside won (21-16) in dramatic fashion while shocking the entire state of Indiana. What a great night of football and the playoffs are just beginning.
