The Winfield Warriors defeated the St. Charles Pirates 70-28 on homecoming night.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
In the first half, the Warriors were off to a great start, dominating on offense to score the first points. St. Charles later responded by dominating Winfield’s defense with their run game and putting up 20 points before the half to make the score 34-28 before the half.
In the second half, the Warriors overpowered the Pirates, wearing them down on both sides of the ball. They now improve to 4-2. They gained a season high of 430 yards on offense.
Here are some players that stood out:
<strong>Winfield</strong>
<strong>WR [player_tooltip player_id="179088" first="Austin" last="Carson"] c/o 22.</strong> Carson had one heck of a game on homecoming weekend. He got the job done with 75 rushing yards and a touchdown, and 59 yards and catching one for a touchdown. He showed off his agility and his quickness during the matchup between St. Charles and held the role as one of the leaders on the team.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
<strong>QB [player_tooltip player_id="200063" first="Wade" last="Ellison"] c/o 22</strong>. Ellison is a versatile quarterback, and he proved that during the matchup against St. Charles. He threw for 157 yards, three touchdowns, and rushed for 46 yards and ran one in for a touchdown. He has a great iQ and can also beat his defenders with his legs. He has great vision and can hit his target anywhere on the field.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
<strong>DE [player_tooltip player_id="213807" first="Cole" last="Sams"] c/o 22.</strong> Sams was all over St. Charles on the defensive side. He accumulated a total of 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. He has a great motor, and is aggressive in the trenches. Sams would<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>be a great asset to any school that picks him up.
<strong>St. Charles</strong>
<strong>TE-DL [player_tooltip player_id="37557" first="Marquis" last="Gracial"] c/o 22.</strong> For a big boy, Gracial runs hard whenever he has the ball. The Pirates used him as a fullback, and for runs up the middle. The defense had a hard time taking him down. Gracial picked up big yards down the middle and ran one in for a touchdown. He also showed out on defense, pursuing to the ball and getting pressure on the quarterback.
<strong>RB [player_tooltip player_id="103439" first="Kofi" last="MbRoh"] c/o 23.</strong> Mbroh was a huge asset to the Pirates on kick returns. He is fast and very elusive on run plays. Although things didn’t go in the teams’ favor, Mbroh still showed out and contributed to his offense.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
