What We Saw: Stallions Rally in 4th Quarter To Beat Catawba Ridge

South Pointe and Catawba Ridge clashed to begin the region schedule and this one was fun until the final whistle. The Stallions came up with a critical goal line stand in the 4th quarter, which led to a missed field goal along with one other stand to hold off the Copperheads, 28-18 on Friday night. Let’s jump into notes and observations from Friday’s contest: South Pointe <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id="200727" first="Zay" last="McCrorey"]<a href="https://twitter.com/ZayMccrorey1"> (@ZayMccrorey1)</a> – McCrorey showed the ability to move in the pocket and make things happen. He overcame the pressure Catawba Ridge brought early. He came back strong in the second quarter and capitalized on two Copperhead turnovers with touchdowns. The first one was to junior WR Demari Kendrick <a href="https://twitter.com/KendrickDemari">(@KendrickDemari)</a> on a deep ball where the timing was on point and dropped right in the breadbasket. The second one right was over the middle to senior WR Jakhari Webb <a href="https://twitter.com/JakhariWebb">(@JakhariWebb</a>) with seconds remaining before the half. </li> </ul>   <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Senior WR Waymond Jenerette<a href="https://twitter.com/WaymondJeneret3"> (@WaymondJeneret3)</a> – Jenerette’s route running tonight was impressive. We noticed on a third down play where he found the green grass on an out route for a first down. He also made a critical catch at the sticks on a touchdown drive right before the half. He lined up at the defensive back position and picked off [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"] for a game-sealing touchdown late in the 4th quarter.</li> </ul> <blockquote>“For him to shine the way he has this season, I’m just proud of him. Miller<a href="https://twitter.com/Ajmiller92"> (@Ajmiller92)</a> – Miller recovered a fumble in the second quarter, punching out a flare pass caught by Henry Bowen. He had an active night on the defensive line, harassing QB [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"] at times and was critical in the goal line stand in the fourth quarter.</li> </ul> [embed]https://twitter.com/Ajmiller92/status/1444133221067800581[/embed] <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Junior RB Caleb Sims<a href="https://twitter.com/Calebsims34"> (@Calebsims34)</a> – Sims was effective in the inside run game, especially in the second half. He had good pad level and scored a touchdown in the third quarter.</li> </ul> Catawba Ridge <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Sophomore QB [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"]<a href="https://twitter.com/iamjadyndavis"> (@iamjadyndavis)</a> – Davis is the No. 1 player in the 2024 PRZ rankings and we got a look at him for the first time. The ball comes out of his hands smoothly and he puts it where only his receiver can get it. He can keep plays alive with his feet and is deceptively quick -- he scored on a QB keeper in the first quarter.</li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Senior DL [player_tooltip player_id="59504" first="Asa" last="Johnson"]<a href="https://twitter.com/Asajohnson55"> (@Asajohnson55)</a> – Johnson was a name we heard all throughout the night. He fights to get to the quarterback and has great mobility. He played under control at one point to slow play the zone read and limit the gain.</li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Senior WR/CB [player_tooltip player_id="153256" first="Jacobie" last="Henderson"]<a href="https://twitter.com/cobieh10"> (@cobieh10)</a> – The Marshall commit was an impact player all over the place. He showed great coverage skills on a deep ball to prevent the completion in the first half. But the real impact that he made was on offense, he’s shifty in space and can make people miss.</li> </ul> <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Senior WR [player_tooltip player_id="201152" first="Trevor" last="Testerman"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Testerman2022">(@Testerman2022)</a> – Davis and Testerman had a connection on the intermediate routes over the middle throughout the night. Testerman made a diving catch on the last drive where they came up short.</li> </ul> <blockquote>“There’s a lot of trust between the two of them. Jones ran hard in between the tackles and he didn’t go down easily. He had a touchdown run as well.</li> </ul> Additional notes and observations <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">South Pointe DL [player_tooltip player_id="139304" first="Chris" last="Dixon"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Cjdixon_417">(@Cjdixon_417)</a> assisted on a quarterback pressure on Catawba Ridge’s final drive of the night.</li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">South Pointe DB Chris McCullough <a href="https://twitter.com/iamchris5_">(@iamchris5_)</a> picked off [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"] in the second quarter with an acrobatic grab near the sidelines in the second quarter.</li> <li>Catawba Ridge LB BJ Mallard <a href="https://twitter.com/bjmallard12?lang=en">(@BJMallard12)</a> tipped a [player_tooltip player_id="200727" first="Zay" last="McCrorey"] pass on third down in the second quarter. He sat and played his coverage like he was supposed to and nearly came up with the INT.</li> </ul>
