Below, we will breakdown some impressive Week 8 performances from across the region. This week, there was some big time upsets and players that stood out while new names emerging from the 2022-2024 class.

Jacob Porteous, Casa Grande HS
The leading passer in the section, Porteous and the Gaucho offense have been hard to stop down the stretch. In the pocket, he is a strong armed signal caller that puts great touch and velocity on the deep ball while able to throw into tight windows outside of the pocket and while on the run. Doing a good job at looking off the back end and moving defenders, he is calm in the pocket and moves well through his progressions while displaying strong pocket awareness and has a very high football IQ.

Freeman is one of the most electrifying players across the entire region, and has not disappointed so far this season. Every week, he seems to show his elite acceleration and short area quickness and fluidity in tight windows while able to hit a third gear in the open field and can easily make multiple defenders miss. Freeman impacts the game in all three phases while showing that he has strong hands and can make contested catches while also possessing elite return abilities in the kick and punt game.
Josh Taylor, Casa Roble HS
Taylor is a very tough and physical back that gets downhill in a hurry and looks for contact in the open field while running strong between the tackles while also being athletic enough to bounce it outside and gain the edge. Showing good vision and cutback ability, he runs with strong contact balance and a natural forward lean while always fighting for extra yards. As he continues through his Junior year, he should see some college interest come his way.
