Week 8 of the New Mexico High School football season was filled with plenty of exceptional performances. Here are some of the top performers (in alphabetical order):
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134999" first="Milo" last="Acosta"], Clovis</strong>: Sparked the Wildcats’ comeback from a 21-6 deficit with 8 mins left in the third quarter with 62 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the second half. He also completed 8-of-13 passes for 143 yards. With the score tied 21-21, he led Clovis on a 12-play, 76-yard drive for the winning TD.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="198070" first="Julian" last="Cobos"], Santa Teresa</strong>: Cobos threw for 118 yards and rushed for 100 yards on just 3 carries as Santa Teresa crushed Rio Grande, 48-0.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138056" first="Cole" last="Conway"], Albuq. Academy</strong>: Rushed for 83 yards and 3 TD as the Chargers went on the road and beat Valencia, 28-8.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="208825" first="Favian" last="Cordova"], Taos</strong>: Caught the eventual game-winning TD pass in the 2<sup>nd</sup> OT as Taos edged Silver at Los Lunas High School.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135303" first="Dominic" last="Esparza"], St. Pius X</strong>: Contributed on both sides of the ball to the Sartans’ win at Bernalillo. 115 all-purpose yards and 10 tackles on defense.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135319" first="Devin" last="Flores"], St. Michael’s</strong>: Flores scored 3 touchdowns, including a 62-yard punt return, in St. Michael’s 53-0 victory over Santa Fe Indian School.
<strong>Landan Frost, Aztec</strong>: Frost completed 12-of-17 passes for 200 yards and 4 TD as Aztec mercy-ruled Gallup on the road. Aztec has its first two-game winning streak of the season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134967" first="Juan" last="Fuentes"], Dexter</strong>: Fuentes was a major part of Dexter’s offense in a loss to West Las Vegas, rushing for 131 yards and throwing for 75 yards.
<strong>Damian Gallegos, West Las Vegas</strong>: Gallegos, continuing to make his case for Player of the Year in Class 3A, rushed for 149 yards on 16 carries and caught 6 passes for 101 yards in WLV’s 39-27 win over Dexter.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134908" first="Colton" last="Graham"], Hobbs</strong>: Hobbs lost to Las Cruces, 34-28, on their home field, but Graham had another exemplary performance, completing 11-of-15 passes for 287 yards (25+ yards per completion) and rushing 9 times for 91 yards. Graham accounted for 378 total yards.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26247" first="Josh" last="Gerardo"], Volcano Vista</strong>: Gerardo has enjoyed a sensational season and he continued his fine play against Atrisco Heritage by completing 10-of-17 passes for 183 yards and 4 TD.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138076" first="Tomas" last="Herrera"], Gadsden</strong>: Throwing for 145 yards and rushing for 125 more, Herrera had 270 total yards in Gadsden’s 34-29 loss to Organ Mountain.
<strong>Logan Howell, Piedra Vista</strong>: Howell threw for 2 TD and ran 20 yards for another TD as the Panthers beat Capital in Santa Fe.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="208812" first="Andres" last="Madrid"], Santa Rosa</strong>: One of the state’s best kept secrets rushed for 192 yards and 3 TD on 17 carries in Santa Rosa’s 35-12 victory over Clayton.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134970" first="Jose" last="Montoya"], Mayfield</strong>: Montoya led Mayfield’s ground game against Goddard, including a 31-yard TD run.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138039" first="Robert" last="Nora"], Clovis</strong>: Nora, the hero of Clovis’ miracle win over Albuquerque two weeks ago, had the game-cinching interception and drew a critical pass interference penalty on the game’s decisive drive.
<strong>Brandon Olivas</strong>: The sophomore made his first career start for Eldorado and he completed 13-of-24 passes for 4 TD.
<strong>C.J. Perea, West Las Vegas</strong>: The freshman completed 20-of-23 passes for 242 yards and 3 TD as WLV outlasted Dexter, 39-27.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134902" first="Conagher" last="Pierce"], Eunice</strong>: The Cardinals lost to Jal, 40-38, but Pierce completed 20-of-33 passes for 282 yards and 2 TD and rushed for 131 yards on 19 carries. That’s 413 total yards for one of the top Class 2A quarterbacks.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135313" first="Matthew" last="Quartieri"], Raton</strong>: His only reception was a 56-yard TD catch. Defensively, he made 10 tackles with 2 sacks to help lead the Tigers to a 28-26 victory over Robertson.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137884" first="A.J." last="Rivera"], Albuq. Academy</strong>: Completed 18-of-25 passes for 185 yards and 1 TD in the Chargers road win at Valencia.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137924" first="Adrian" last="Solis"], Goddard</strong>: Ran 62 yards for a TD in the Rockets’ 20-13 loss at Mayfield.
<strong>Cameron Sowards, Mayfield</strong>: Sowards made the play of the game in the Trojans’ win over Goddard, catching a pass from QB Cesar Granado, eluding a Rockets defender and racing 65 yards for the game-winning TD with 3:10 left.
<strong>Blake Spencer, Bloomfield</strong>: Spencer, who has filled in for starting QB [player_tooltip player_id="208748" first="Ryan" last="Sharpe"] the past 3 weeks, completed all 11 of his passes for 142 yards and three TD as the Bobcats dominated Shiprock, 56-6.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="198283" first="Diego" last="Snell-Martinez"], Bloomfield</strong>: Rushed for 102 yards on just 6 carries and scored 2 TD in Bloomfield’s rout of Shiprock.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="198301" first="Ethan" last="Thomas"], Farmington</strong>: Returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a TD as Farmington routed Miyamura in a game that ended at a halftime.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137923" first="Malachi" last="Thymes"], Sandia</strong>: The junior RB rushed for 120 yards and 3 TD as the Matadors had a big first half in a 30-14 victory over Albuquerque. Sandia is 2-1 in district play and tied with Eldorado for 2<sup>nd</sup> place behind La Cueva.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135097" first="Kaden" last="Valdez"], Volcano Vista</strong>: 5 receptions for 96 yds and 2 TD in Volcano Vista’s 61-9 victory over Atrisco Heritage.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="138053" first="Cayden" last="Walton"], Raton</strong>: Led undefeated Raton’s offensive effort in the 28-26 win over Robertson with 191 rushing yards and 3 TD on 24 carries, and 3 receptions for 31 yards. He also intercepted a pass and made 8 tackles defensively.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="139521" first="Evan" last="Wysong"], Cleveland</strong>: Our Player of the Week accounted for 7 TD in Cleveland’s 56-12 victory over Cibola Friday night. Wysong rushed for 180 yards and 4 TD and threw for 3 TD, completing 13-of-15 passes.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26257" first="Marco" last="Ybarra"], St. Pius X</strong>: Rushed for 179 yards and 3 TD on 27 carries to help lift St. Pius X to a key 35-7 district victory at Bernalillo.
