Week 8 is quickly approaching and this is where we've got teams fighting for league championships, and some fighting for playoff hopes. There's plenty of great matchups on tap, and I highly encourage attending a game before the playoffs. Now let's go over 4 games to watch in the Grand Rapids area.
Games to Watch
(5-2) Zeeland East @ (4-2) Zeeland West: One of the best rivalries in West Michigan, the Chix travel to face the Dux. The West Dux have won 3 meetings in a row, but they face an East team with impressive talent, most notably Western Michigan commit [player_tooltip player_id="162660" first="Tag" last="Bonnema"]. Though, the Dux have their own unique weapons most notably Skyler Geurink, the Dux greatest offensive star.
(6-1) Byron Center @ (6-1) Forest Hills Central: This is a very interesting matchup and one that will likely decide the OK-White. Byron Center is coming in off a loss to GR Chrisitan, and they look to bounce back against an even greater test here. I’m interested to see what WR Brady Breit and RB Jason Sevigny can do against that Central defense. On the flip side, FH Central has looked incredible this year with their only loss being a thriller vs Grand Blanc. They will be favored and will win if they get good production out of MLB [player_tooltip player_id="30202" first="Tyler" last="Weaver"] and QB Hunter Robinson.
(6-1) Spring Lake @ (6-1) West Catholic: I’ve been saying it since the preseason- Spring Lake is one of the fastest-rising programs in the state thanks to head coach Daniel Start, and they’re going to be tested against a team that has already solidified their elite staus in West Catholic. I’m confident West Catholic QB Noah Arsulowicz will settle down into his game this week. On Spring Lake’s side, OLB Ty French and DE Hunter Throop need to play just as well as the Unity Christian front 7 to stop the rush.
(3-4) Fruitport @ (3-4) Allendale: Both teams are fighting for their postseason hopes in this one, as Fruitport is currently the last team IN the 2021 playoffs, while Allendale is the 6th team OUT. It’s a battle of two explosive offenses, so expect a shootout. For Fruitport, QB [player_tooltip player_id="93699" first="Gavin" last="Reames"] and G Richard Wiggins IV have been leading the charge for that explosive offense. For Allendale, they need some output from Josh Gunneson, and they’re going to benefit greatly from inside pressure from DT Domenico Tejeda.
