October football is going strong up and down South Carolina’s coast line, with a pair of region games and one potential playoff preview coming down the pipe this Friday.
Naturally, there are some key head-to-head match-ups we’re looking forward to getting eyes on. Prep Red Zone South Carolina will be covering Hartsville-Myrtle Beach and will then have an opportunity to break down film from the other two.
This is who we’ll be keeping the closest tabs on in each of the three games.
Fort Dorchester (5-0) at Goose Creek (4-2)
It’s a non-region game, but given the potential for a playoff rematch and the amount of star power on the field, it’s impossible to ignore this Lowcountry clash. [player_tooltip player_id="91143" first="Drew" last="Moore"], [player_tooltip player_id="61071" first="Demetri" last="Simmons"], [player_tooltip player_id="91188" first="Khyon" last="Smith"] and [player_tooltip player_id="59477" first="Jayden" last="Johnson"] are just some of the big names Goose Creek will be counting on. Fort D’s [player_tooltip player_id="89313" first="Devin" last="Geddis"] and [player_tooltip player_id="89318" first="Demetrius" last="Watson"] anchor a huge defensive line, while [player_tooltip player_id="89345" first="Zolten" last="Osborne"], [player_tooltip player_id="200666" first="Davion" last="Joyner"] and [player_tooltip player_id="200692" first="Demetris" last="McKelvey"] can turn the passing game into anyone’s nightmare.
Hartsville (2-3, 2-0) at Myrtle Beach (3-1, 2-0)
Another potential slugfest is on the docket in Region VI-4A this week, with Hartsville’s high-powered rushing attack - led by [player_tooltip player_id="208339" first="Carmello" last="McDaniel"] and [player_tooltip player_id="202738" first="J’Shawn" last="Anderson"] - going up against the Seahawks’ passing attack centered around quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="59494" first="Ryan" last="Burger"], [player_tooltip player_id="59464" first="Adam" last="Randall"], Jake Doty and others. But the match-up we’ll be watching closely in this one is the Myrtle Beach defensive line against their stacked counterparts on the Red Foxes’ offensive one. Whomever gets a push there will make major waves toward deciding the outcome.
May River (4-2, 1-0) at Bluffton (2-3, 1-0)
Beaufort is still the likely class of Region VII-4A, but the fight for a second-place finish is alive and well. May River quarterback Garvin Douglas and been lights out, rushing for 933 yards and 10 touchdowns to go along with 300 passing yards and another three scores. Tailbacks Jaeon Allen (463 yards) and [player_tooltip player_id="" first="Cam" last="Scott"] (296 yards) have been great complements. Down the road at Bluffton, quarterback Max Vonhohenstraeten is taking a more conventional route. He threw for 377 yards last week against Colleton County and has put up 896 and 10 touchdowns in four games.
