While offenses are starting to open up more and more in the passing game, it’s still important that teams continue to run the football and bring a physical aspect to their offense. Some of the top current running backs in college football are from Georgia, and plenty more are on the way. There are still way too many backs out there who have yet to see their recruitment take off.
Here are some senior running backs who still have zero D1 offers as he head towards the second half of the season.
Simeon Askew – Houston County
Eventually, one school needs to take a chance on the star back from Middle Georgia who has been unstoppable so far this season. There are plenty of smaller, D1 and D2 schools who could really use someone with Askew’s quickness, balance, and ability to break tackles. At 5-foot-11 210-pounds, Askew has plenty of size and can be tough to bring down by just one defenders. He’s been extremely productive as a senior this fall, rushing for 1,450 yards and 11 touchdowns so far this season. He’s coming off his biggest game of the year this past weekend as he rushed 35 times for 272 yards and three touchdowns, breaking off a long 76-yard run during the game. He’s a speedy back with size and just a natural runner. He knows what he’s doing with the ball, he’s instinctive between the tackles, and has enough speed to get to the edge and get up the field.
Kevin Rochester – North Hall
Another one of the state’s more productive backs, Rochester is a thick back with great leg strength who knows how to get tough yards between the tackles. A powerful runner behind his pads, Rochester is only listed at 180-pounds, but he runs hard and always finds a way to fall forward. He also has plenty of speed and can break off a big run on any particular play. He may not be the most dynamic or athletic runner, but he’s tough and has been extremely productive all season. He currently has 1,083 yards and 14 TDs in just 7 games, averaging over 150 rushing yards per game.
Xzavier Green – Westside
One of the top backs in all of East Georgia, Green is a capable back without offers who is having an excellent senior season. A 1st-team All-Region selection last year, Green is once again running through defenses with ease in his final season. He’s a quick, slippery runner with excellent footwork who can get upfield in a hurry. He’s dominated just about every game so far this season, rushing for 955 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 5 games, averaging 191 yards per game. He’s playing on a different level and could absolutely make an impact somewhere at the next level.
Nazir Berry – Spalding
Like Green, Berry is a quick, explosive runner who can burst through a hole as well as anyone in the area. He changes directions well and can make defenders miss with ease. He’s one of the top running in the metro-Atlanta area and he’s made it look easy this fall as a senior. One of the state’s leading rushers at the moment, Berry has 818 yards rushing to go along with 11 touchdowns through his first six games. He’s a senior without a D1 offer, but he could see some interest from some smaller schools coming his way if he continues to run through defenses the rest of the season.
Tradon Foster – Alexander
He may be on the smaller side, but there aren’t many backs across the state who have the explosiveness that Foster does. Another, shorter, quicker back, Foster can make defenders miss and then explode down the field if given space. He’s tough to corral in the open field and can take a busted play and turn it into a big one. His recruitment hasn’t taken off yet, but the productivity has been there all season. The Douglasville native has rushed for 1,006 yards and 10 touchdowns so far this season. He’s also caught 13 passes for 223 yards out of the backfield.
