The St. John’s Cadets achieved their third consecutive shutout victory, and it was done in dominant fashion. The Cadets led Bishop McNamara 28-0 at halftime, and they had full control of the game from the very first snap. The Cadets are now undefeated in conference play as well as 6-0 overall, therefore they’re now playing for the coveted perfect season. Their next game is 10/22 against DeMatha, where they will put their undefeated record on the line. First, let’s highlight the top preforming Cadets from this past weekend’s victory.
ST. JOHN’S
Offense:
2022 5’6 170 RB – [player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"]
[player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"] continued his reign of dominance this season, scoring the first two touchdowns of this contest. Curtis’ numbers truly speak for themselves at this point, as he’s scored a touchdown or multiple in every game this season, and there’s no doubt that he has tremendous ability that will translate well at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="121525" first="Jamar" last="Curtis"] should, without a doubt, be awarded All-WCAC honors this season. He will look to continue his spectacular career season against DeMatha on 10/22.
2022 6’1 190 QB – [player_tooltip player_id="134896" first="Wyatt" last="Hagan"]
[player_tooltip player_id="134896" first="Wyatt" last="Hagan"] has flourished in every single game this season and that did not change against Bishop McNamara. Hagan threw for nearly 300 yards, and on throws for longer than twenty yards he was nearly perfect. There’s no question that [player_tooltip player_id="134896" first="Wyatt" last="Hagan"] has outplayed every opposing quarterback that he has faced this season, however, Hagan faces his toughest test of the season on October 22 when the Cadets meet Freshman phenom Denzel Gardner and the DeMatha Stags. The DeMatha defense is heating up at just the right time this season, and if [player_tooltip player_id="134896" first="Wyatt" last="Hagan"] can lead the Cadets past them then he will sit alone atop the WCAC as the best quarterback in the conference this season.
2022 6’0 195 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"]
The play of the day in this game certainly belongs to [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"]. The Cadets’ offense lined up at about the five yard line in a wildcat formation with [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"] under center in shotgun. At the snap he went quarterback draw up the middle for the touchdown, and that was the final straw of the day for the McNamara Mustangs. [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"] will be a crucial part of St. John’s offense in their next game against DeMatha.
2023 6’1 180 WR – Sean Williams
The MVP of this game for the Cadets was Sean Williams. He was able to find space for himself and get open on seemingly every play, and he was just about as uncoverable and elusive as receivers get at the high school level. Williams hauled in a plethora of receptions for more than one hundred overall yards, and he also made multiple key receptions which put the Cadets in the red zone. If DeMatha wants to have a chance at stopping St. John’s, then they must incorporate Sean Williams into their game plan. He is as dynamic a receiver as any other in the entire DMV area, and he’s also usually lined up in tandem with his equally dynamic teammate [player_tooltip player_id="136028" first="DJ" last="Linkins"] which makes him even more difficult to cover.
2023 6’2 190 WR – Asa Gregg
Asa Gregg has really stepped up on the big stage this season, and he’s proving that he will be able to handle a much larger role at receiver for his Senior season next year. Gregg had an extremely solid performance against McNamara, where he hauled in multiple receptions for more than twenty yards. His yards after the catch are what stand out when you watch Gregg, because he never goes down right away. He always fights for extra yardage with the mindset of getting into the end zone by any means possible. Asa Gregg is an elite receiver who will certainly have a big impact on St. John’s game versus DeMatha in the coming weeks.
Defense:
2022 6’0 180 DB – Shomari Stone
Shomari Stone was all over the field for the Cadets in this contest. He was able to breach the backfield consistently from the secondary, stopping pass catchers and ball carriers for negative yardage, and he also disrupted any sort of rhythm that the Mustang offense hoped to generate. Stone won all of his receiver matchups, and nobody on the McNamara receiving corps could get open, especially when matched up with him. The DeMatha pass catchers will have their hands full on October 22 when they’re matched up against Shomari Stone. He does not back down and he is as elite of a defensive back as there is in the WCAC.

2022 6’1 250 DL – Marcus Simmons
Marcus Simmons put on a pass rushing clinic against Bishop McNamara. McNamara quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="90446" first="Jordan" last="Adams"] was under constant pressure from Simmons, and it became clear early that the McNamara offensive line was simply no match for St. Johns’ pass attack. Simmons, jersey #99, dominated every single matchup that was thrown at him, and he also recorded multiple sacks in this contest. There’s no question that Marcus Simmons will do big things at the D1 level, but before that he faces a tough test in the DeMatha offensive line on 10/22. There’s no doubt, however, that Simmons is capable of passing this difficult test with flying colors as he leads the Cadets to victory.
