Teams delivered big time performances in Week 8 in the southern part of New Jersey. Playoff positioning is at stake and these matchups did not disappoint.
With that being said, let’s take a look at the scores from Week 8.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>(No. 19) Delsea 42 vs Mainland 14</strong></span>
Delsea captured a win over Mainland to claim the West Jersey Football League (WJFL) title. Delsea’s rushing attack dominated this entire game without attempting a single pass attempt. <em>Sophomore RB [player_tooltip player_id="220077" first="Wayne" last="Adair"] (Delsea</em>) contributed on the ground for Delsea. He had 13 carries with 87 yards and 2 TD’s. Also, <em>Senior RB Jaedyn Stewart (Delsea)</em> contributed as well finishing with 115 yards on 18 carries and 86 yards. Delsea’s offensive line did a great job clearing the way for their running backs who are known for breeding top tier running backs. Delsea will close out their regular season schedule against Steinert this Friday. Delsea has a punched their ticket to the playoffs while Mainland has been eliminated.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Northern Burlington 3 vs Ewing 29</strong></span>
Ewing’s defense came to play. Senior DT DeShan Kelly (Ewing) was unstoppable finishing with 8 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 TFL. Ewing excelled on the offensive side as well even tough their starting quarterback Tariq McKinney suffered an ankle injury. He left the game early in the 2nd quarter and did not return. However, their back up quarterback was able to get the job done. He connected with <em>Senior WR [player_tooltip player_id="207533" first="Tyreek" last="Rollins"] (Ewing)</em> on 2 TD’s. This was a huge win for Ewing who are in good shape to make the Group 3 playoffs. Ewing has claimed the WJFL Valley title and will finish their regular season schedule against Pennsauken on Friday.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>(No.2) St. Augustine vs Shawnee 7 </strong></span>
St. Augustine was able to slow down Shawnee’s high powered offense. Shawnee had a tough time scoring points against a defense that has only allowed 37 points in the last five games. St. Augustine jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The offense was led by <em>Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id="27984" first="Kanye" last="Udoh"] (St. Augustine)</em> who is a man amongst boys. He finished with 31 carries for 194 yards and one score. St. Augustine has clinched the WJFL division and will punch their ticket to the Non- Public A playoffs just over a week away. St. Augustine will finish their regular season schedule against Holy Spirit on Friday. Shawnee will fall to 4-3 and hope to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>(No.16) St. Joseph (Hamm.) 31 vs Washington Township 21 </strong></span>
It was a big day for St. Joseph coming away with a win. The offense had a great day led by <em>Senior Quarterback Ja’son Prevard (St. Joseph (Hamm.)</em> who was 10-19 with 237 yards and 4 TDs under center. He connected with his primary target <em>Senior WR Jahmeer Cartenega (St. Joseph (Hamm.) </em>who caught 5 passes for 178 yards and 2 TDs. These two have a really good connection on and off the field and it will carry on into the postseason. St. Joseph (Hamm.) will end their regular season schedule against Winslow on Friday.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>(No.13) Cedar Creek 27 vs Camden 8</strong></span>
Cedar Creek dominated on both sides of the ball. <em>Senior Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="203252" first="JC" last="Landicini"] (Cedar Creek) </em>had a great performance. He was 20-30 with 305 yards 3 TD’s displaying good decision making skill and poise. His main target <em>Senior WR [player_tooltip player_id="27993" first="JoJo" last="Bermudez"] (Cedar Creek)</em> had a great day as always hauling in 8 catches for 163 yards and one touchdown. He does a great job coming down with the 50/50 ball. Cedar Creek will advance to 9-0 and will play their next game in the postseason. On the other hand, Camden has been eliminated.
