It’s Week 7 in the Garden State and teams are competing to qualify for a playoff spot and a conference championship. There are several key games you should keep an eye on this week.
Scroll down below to take a look at the best matchups in South Jersey.
St. Joseph (5-2) at Kingsway (3-2)
When: Friday at 6pm
Both teams are 3-0 in conference play and the winner will have the upper hand. Kingsway will look to continue their momentum after upsetting undefeated Washington Township last week. Kingsway is led by JR Quarterback Nate Maiers (Kingsway) who is a threat in the pass game as well as on the ground. Last week he was 7-19 101 yards, one touchdown and 84 yards with a touchdown. Maiers will need to play at a high level to come out with a win. On the other hand, St. Joseph is a well established program who has a reputation of winning the conference. They are a very stout defense only allowing 16 points during a three game stretch. This game could go either way but you expect this to be a very close game.
St. Augustine (5-1) at Vineland (1-5)
When: Friday at 6pm
St. Augustine is off to their best start in ten years and currently ranked #2 in the state. They are very good in all phases of the game and Vineland will have their hands full. St. Augustine has too many athletes that can make plays such as Sr DB Kenneth Selby (St. Augustine) , Sr RB [player_tooltip player_id="27984" first="Kanye" last="Udoh"] (St. Augustine) and Sr QB [player_tooltip player_id="184793" first="Trey" last="McLeer"] (St. Augustine). They will look to put up a lot of points to make a statement. Meanwhile, Vineland is a young team who are still in the re-building process. I expect Vineland to give all out effort but it simply will not be enough to get the win.
Triton (4-2) at Atlantic City (3-2)
When: Friday at 6pm
These two teams have not lost a game in their conference. Triton started the season off slow but they are entering this game on a 4 game winning streak. Jr RB [player_tooltip player_id="146664" first="Justin" last="Brown"] (Triton) leads the way for Triton. He is averaging 144 yards a game with a total of 867 yards and four touchdowns so far this season. It will be crucial for Triton to get him as many carries as possible because Atlantic City struggles with defending the run. In regards to Atlantic City, their three game winning streak was snapped by Egg Harbor last week. Atlantic City will be highly motivated to put that loss behind them and capture a win Friday night. It will not be an easy task but expect this game to be intriguing from start to finish.
Clearview (3-3) at Mainland (4-3)
When: Friday at 6:30pm
Mainland has won two straight who is led by their talented Jr QB Marlon Leslie (Mainland). Leslie is their most productive athlete for Mainland. He is the teams leader in rushing yards (512) and 5 touchdowns. He can get it done through the air as well but running the ball is their bread and butter. Clearview is looking to play the role of a spoiler in hoping to ruin Mainland’s chances in winning the conference. Their defense is key in this matchup who is led by Sr LB Forrest Love (Mainland) who leads his team in tackles (8). Last week Clearview allowed 41 points but I am sure they’ve made some adjustments for this important game. Both teams have something to play for so expect this game to intense.
Millville (4-1) at Williamstown (3-3)
When: Friday at 7pm
Millville is coming off a blow out win over Hammonton last week 50-0. Millville has several key players who produce on a consistent basis such as Sr QB [player_tooltip player_id="190993" first="Nate" last="Robbins"] (Millville). He is a pro-style quarterback who is a great decision maker. He is efficient tacking on 961 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions so far this season. Also, Sr RB [player_tooltip player_id="27978" first="LeQuint" last="Allen"] (Millville) who is committed to Syracuse has a total of 829 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. These two athletes alone will be a lot to handle for Williamstown.
