That was the case when the Rogers’ Royals hosted the Elk River Elks. Although the game was close early, the Royals wore down the Elks’ defense and won, going away – 30-7. Here are some of the individuals – and one group of five – that impressed.
Grady Hines, Caden Satter, Miles Boldue, Wyatt Bell, Reiken Downs Rogers OL
There is no way not, at least to mention each one of these guys. The Royals’ offense was stopped on drive number one, but rarely after that. Downs took a trip to the buffet line with a pancake block that opened a hole for a first down. One play that stood out for Bell was when he came across the formation to throw a crushing trap block. Downs and Bell wore out the left side of the Elk’s defensive line. Whenever the Royals needed tough yards, Downs and Bell were called upon.
Anthony Powell Rogers RB
Powell was the biggest benefactor of the Royals’ offensive line. He keeps his pad level low, has quick feet that allow him to make tiny cuts at the line of scrimmage to find room. The junior ran behind the right side and then bounced the run outside for eight yards. Then, he used his strength to drive his way to a first down on a third and short. His footwork was displayed with a patient run in the second half using his multiple short cuts. He later used solid footwork as he bounced a run to the outside for a first down.
Eric Pearson Rogers FB
After a 15-yard touchdown run, Pearson made a run up the middle – bouncing off tacklers for five yards. He caught a swing pass and should have been dropped for a loss, but he broke a tackle and got down the sidelines for twenty yards on a third and eight. He cut right out of the hole on a run up the middle and broke a tackle to pick up the first down.
Tyson Vylasek Rogers QB
Vylasek started the game with a strong throw to the sidelines. Later, he completed a pass to the flat while having to throw off his back foot. Vylasek made a strong throw on an out pattern to pick up the first down on a fourth and two. His best pass of the game might have been a touchdown. He threw a perfect fade pass – just over the defender and into the hands of his receiver for a fourteen-yard touchdown.
Kaden Pederson Rogers WR
Pederson was the recipient of the Vylasek touchdown pass. Pederson scored the touchdown by making a juggling catch in the corner of the end zone. Earlier, he made a catch on the sidelines and got a foot down to convert on a fourth down.
Mitch Jezierski Rogers TE
In addition to being a physical lead blocker – opening many running lanes for his backs – Jezierski scored a short touchdown when he lined up as a Wildcat quarterback.
Kyle Jackson Rogers TE
Speaking of lead blocking, Jackson’s lead block sprung his running back around the corner. Not just a blocker, he made two catches in the flat. The second, he got up the sidelines for a first down.
