The final weekend of the regular season for much of the state has finally arrived. Across the state, plenty of conference titles have still yet to be decided and there are great matchups on the docket for this evening. With that, we selected five games from across the state to keep a close eye on as the regular season wraps up.
Downingtown East (8-1) vs Coatesville (9-1)
The Ches-Mont league will be decided this evening between Downingtown East and Coatesville. Both teams enter this weekend with an 8-1 overall record including 3-0 in conference play. While both sit at 8-1, they got there in their own different ways. The Cougars of Downingtown East got here through great defensive efforts, allowing just over 14 points per contest. The Red Raiders of Coatesville, on the other hand, have used an explosive offense averaging 37 points per game. Both teams have aspirations to make deep runs in the state playoffs this year and this game should be an absolutely fantastic matchup in Coatesville.
William Penn (7-1) vs Central York (9-0)
One of our top players regardless of position and the top quarterback in the state, [player_tooltip player_id="27576" first="Beau" last="Pribula"] will look to lead Central York to another perfect regular-season record. Pribula hasn’t had to throw the ball around much this season but has been efficient when doing so. He’s completed 78.2% of his passes for 1,932-yards (20.8 yards per completion, 241-yards per game) for 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He’s been nearly perfect the last few weeks as well. William Penn will look to ruin Central York’s perfect season, the Bearcats are 7-1 on the season and haven’t lost a game since their season opener against Governor Mifflin. The Bearcats have a few players to keep an eye on as well including Steven Roland-Washington Jr and [player_tooltip player_id="143193" first="Ni’Jir" last="Greer"].
McKeesport (8-1) vs Belle Vernon (7-0)
This may very well be the premier game of the week in the state and for all the right reasons Two of AAAA’s best go at it in this one for the Big Eight League crown. Both teams feature tremendous offenses as well as lights out defenses, Belle Vernon allowing less than 10-points per game. Belle Vernon linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="27628" first="Cole" last="Weightman"] is the top prospect in this game for us that features six ranked players in the class of 2022, five of them coming from the Leopards.
North Allegheny (6-3) vs Seneca Valley (6-3)
This game isn’t for a league title but it’s still on our games to watch this weekend as it should be a fun matchup. Both teams have put together respectable seasons and have numerous players in our class rankings including North Allegheny’s [player_tooltip player_id="69253" first="Jacob" last="Porter"] and Seneca Valley’s [player_tooltip player_id="178665" first="Nolan" last="Dworek"]. Both teams here looking for a seventh win to finish their regular season out on.
Conrad Weiser (7-2) vs Wyomissing (8-0)
Conrad Weiser is looking to travel to Wyomissing tonight and spoil what has been an absolutely tremendous season for the Spartans. Wyomissing has dominated nearly everyone in their path this season, winning by an average score of 46-9 including their historic win earlier this season over Southern Columbia, ending the Tigers 90+ game regular-season winning streak. This showdown with Conrad Weiser is the final obstacle left in their way of a perfect regular season before they turn their sights on a state championship run. Conrad Weiser will need a big game out of [player_tooltip player_id="95759" first="Logan" last="Klitsch"] in this one to have a chance at the upset, on the other side of the field, look for Wyomissing tight end [player_tooltip player_id="95799" first="Aiden" last="Mack"] to be a big threat in the receiving game as usual.
With that, for the final time in the regular season, this has been our game to watch this week in Pennsylvania High School football. Next week, the journey for a state title begins for a lot of great programs and teams across the state, unfortunately for most of them, they will end up short of their ultimate goal. But, six of them out there will begin their run to glory as eventual state champions. I cannot wait to see what the postseason has in store. For our regular season content, thank you for reading and we’ll be sure to bring you terrific coverage as always we get into the playoffs next week.
