The 5-A West is shaping up to be one of the most competitive conferences in the state of Arkansas this season. We have another matchup this week that will go a long way into determining playoff position. Both teams come in hot and playing solid football right now. With a great deal riding on this game this Friday we will take a look at both teams.
We will look first at the Farmington Cardinals. Farmington has used an offense that does a great job of keeping the opposing defense off-balance. The Cardinals have plenty of weapons on the offensive side of the ball that Greenbrier will need to account for on Friday night. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="157343" first="Cameron" last="Vanzant"] does a great job of finding his guys that can make big plays happen. Wide receiver Justin Logue hauled in six receptions for 168 yards last week. With the ground attack, Farmington running back [player_tooltip player_id="123848" first="Caden" last="Elsik"] can take the ball between the tackles or cut it to the outside. Farmington will have to put the points up this week and will need big plays from the talented offense they have put together this season.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, the Cardinals have been performing extremely well over the past few weeks. Defensive end [player_tooltip player_id="181540" first="Braden" last="Bullington"] is a force along the line for the Cardinals. Bullington has the ability to live in the opposing offensive backfield and Greenbrier will need to account for him. Over the past few weeks, Cooper Gardenhire is a playmaker that can make plays defending against the pass as well as hinder the opposing rushing attack. The Farmington defense will face a big challenge on Friday night.
The host Greenbrier Panthers has an offense that can put up the points as well on Friday night. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="94994" first="Cooper" last="Wilcox"] is dangerous throwing the football. Wilcox has plenty of talented wide receivers to distribute the ball to as well. Carter McElhaney has the speed to create separation. [player_tooltip player_id="133066" first="Jacob" last="Mathis"] gives the Panthers a dangerous threat in the red zone that can high point the football. Wilcox is a quarterback that does a great job escaping the pocket and using his legs to pick up yardage. Wilcox’s rushing ability is something that the Farmington defense will need to account for on Friday night.
On the defensive side of the ball, [player_tooltip player_id="133066" first="Jacob" last="Mathis"] is a player on the defensive side of the ball that can be disruptive to the opposing offense. [player_tooltip player_id="134230" first="Nick" last="Huett"] is another linebacker that will be expected to step up and disrupt the opposing offense in both the run and that passing game. Both teams have a talented defense and this is a game that has the potential to be a low scoring affair, should both defenses come ready to play!
