The playoffs kick off this Friday, and there are plenty of great matchups in the Grand Rapids area. The stakes are never higher as it’s officially win-or-go-home, and I’m extremely excited to see how things pan out. Here are 4 playoff games to watch in the Grand Rapids area.
Games to Watch
Mona Shores @ Forest Hills Central (D2) - This matchup is undoubtedly the best in the Grand Rapids area this week. Mona Shores is the defending D2 champion, while Forest Hills Central is having a phenomenal season. I believe both of these teams have a shot at the State Championship, though of course, they need to get through one another first. MLB [player_tooltip player_id="30202" first="Tyler" last="Weaver"] is the player to watch for FHC, and that defense needs to play incredibly to stop RB Dahmir Farnum of Mona Shores.
Traverse City West @ Grandville (D1) - The winner of this matchup will very likely play Rockford in the next round, and I would argue both are capable of pulling off the upset. TC West is led by RB Remy Schulz and T Daniel Rosa, and they’re going to need to run the ball well against MLB Carlos Alvarado. Adding to the drama, the last 2 times Grandville has faced Rockford, the result has been a loss in 3OT, and a loss in 2OT. Needless to say, the Bulldogs will be out for blood this game, and possibly next game.
Comstock Park @ West Catholic (D5) - The undefeated Panthers of Comstock park are traveling to West Catholic to face off this Friday. The key to the game for the Panthers will be to contain RB [player_tooltip player_id="159621" first="Tim" last="Kloska"] behind [player_tooltip player_id="154344" first="Kyle" last="Kloska"]. I expect this matchup to be great.
Spring Lake @ GR Chrisitan (D4) - Rounding out the excellent games this week is Spring Lake facing off against a very good GR Chrisitan team. Spring Lake has improved significantly under head coach Dan Start, but they’re in the midst of a late-season slip along with some nagging injuries. As for Chrisitan, they’re red hot having won 3 straight against good teams. I see Ja’Martae Hogan as an X-Factor for this game. If he can go off, Christian will win. No matter what, this is going to be a phenomenal game.
