Scouting Report: To play varsity as an underclassmen is an accomplishment that many strive for, but few actually get to recognize. To play varsity as an 8th grader isn’t allowed in most states, but for the few that is acceptable, it’s very rare to see an 8th grader starting quarterback—yet, here is Roman Voss Roman Voss 6'4" | 215 lbs | ATH Jackson County Central (MN) | 2026 State MN . He has elite size for such a young signal caller, but he certainly uses it to his advantage, and can see over the line with ease.
After injuries and shaky play caused Jackson County Central to use four quarterbacks in its season opener, they turned to Voss and he hasn’t disappointed at all. The big righty is a balance quarterback and is surprisingly quick-footed. His film is riddled with plays where he uses his legs to extend plays and get out of trouble. On top of his physical traits, what doesn’t show up in the box score are the intangibles he brings to the position. As an 8th grader he’s grown into a team leader, puts in a ton of film work to study the opposition and has rallied his team, in what could have been a tough situation.
Accolades and honors: As a 7th grader last winter, he averaged five points per game on the varsity basketball team at Jackson County Central. Earlier in the month of October, on homecoming night, he passed for 278 yards and tied for the fifth-most passing yards in a single game in JCC history.
Combine Testing: Voss has verified testing numbers in the 40-yard dash and the pro agility from a camp at South Dakota State. He was clocked at a 4.91 40-yard dash a 4.31 in the pro agility.
Family Connection: Quarterbacking is in his blood. His older brother, Rudy Voss Rudy Voss 6'3" | QB Jackson County Central | 2020 State MN , is a redshirt freshman QB at South Dakota State. He’s also a second cousin of Rocky Lombardi, who started a handful of games at Michigan State and is now finishing his college career at Northern Illinois.
