As Oak Mountain (6-3) and Clay-Chalkville (9-0) prepare to face off this Friday, we went ahead and took a look at some of the talented prospects on both teams!
<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">OAK MOUNTAIN</span></strong></span></em>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="126084" first="Evan" last="Smith"]- </strong>|QB| |5’9 170|
[player_tooltip player_id="126084" first="Evan" last="Smith"] is a terrific athlete and a nightmare for defenses to plan around. It’s incredibly difficult to gameplan around a player as versatile as Smith. As a quarterback, he has fantastic speed and elusiveness, and with that paired with his arm talent/passing ability, Smith is a fantastic offensive weapon that Clay-Chalkville will have to be prepared for. Currently, Smith is committed to Northwestern, as he wraps up his senior season this fall.
<strong>Devan Moss- </strong>|CB| |5’10 160|
Devan Moss has had a very productive junior season for Oak Mountain, contributing on both special teams and defense. On special teams, Moss has returned several kickoffs for great returns, gaining great starting field position for Oak Mountain’s offense. Defensively, Moss has played great excelling in coverage, making key tackles, and forcing turnovers for his team. Moss is definitely going to be a focal point of this Oak Mountain team going forward.
<strong>Ethan Hammett- </strong>|WR| |5’10 165|
Ethan Hammett and [player_tooltip player_id="126084" first="Evan" last="Smith"] have developed great chemistry between one another that has increased the effectiveness of Oak Mountain’s pass game greatly. Hammett is a shifty route runner that can shake off opposing defensive backs with ease, and once free from coverage he can make any catch necessary to help his team. Hammett is also a selfless player, as he is a willing blocker when the ball is in his teammate’s hands.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>CLAY-CHALKVILLE</strong></span></em></span>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="125937" first="Khalib" last="Johnson"]- </strong>|QB| |6’1 217|
[player_tooltip player_id="125937" first="Khalib" last="Johnson"] has become one of the state’s best quarterbacks over the course of his career at Clay-Chalkville. Johnson is an incredibly efficient passer, he does a fantastic job scanning, making the right reads, and delivering the ball to the right targets. Johnson plays with great confidence, standing tall in the pocket, evading pressure, and can make plays on the run if needed. Johnson has received offers from many schools but ultimately made his commitment to Louisville earlier this year.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="127506" first="Marquarius" last="White"]- </strong>|WR| |5’10 152|
If there was one word used to describe [player_tooltip player_id="127506" first="Marquarius" last="White"]’s play at wide receiver it would simply be fast. White has blazing speed, as he has been timed with a 10.7 100 meter sprint. Naturally, White uses his speed to his advantage as he burns by defensive backs, catching huge passes from [player_tooltip player_id="125937" first="Khalib" last="Johnson"] routinely. In addition to his speed, White has a great set of reliable hands, as he has shown the ability to make a wide variety of difficult catches. White has also received his fair share of offers but has pledged his commitment toward Tennessee.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="132050" first="Jaylen" last="Mbakwe"]- </strong>|ATH| |5’11 168|
[player_tooltip player_id="132050" first="Jaylen" last="Mbakwe"] is one of the most talented sophomores in the state, regardless of position. Offensively, Mbakwe is another great wide receiver to pair up with [player_tooltip player_id="125937" first="Khalib" last="Johnson"], as he uses his phenomenal speed and body control to burn defensive backs and make catches. Defensively, Mbakwe is a lockdown cornerback that doesn’t allow anything to be thrown or run towards his side of the field. Only a sophomore, Mbakwe has received tons of offers from the likes of Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, and more
Overall, this is going to be a very fun, fast-paced game and these prospects will surely be out there making plays!
