Just about every college staff looks towards Georgia to recruit, and if they needed a tight end, there was no better place to look.
There are plenty of impressive pass-catching tight ends this fall and a number of them are lighting up the stat sheet as we move towards the end of the regular season. Here are some of the state’s leading receivers from the tight end position…
Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA – West Forsyth
This should come as no surprise as the Forsyth County native and future Georgia Bulldog is ranked as the No. 1 tight end prospect in the country for the 2022 class. An elite pass-catcher at 6-foot-5 225-pounds, Delp is a mis-match for defenders as he runs routes like receivers and can get behind the defense in a hurry. He has big, strong hands and is one of the state’s best when picking up yards after the catch. He’s been double and even triple teamed for a lot of his senior season, but the All-American has still found a way to make a giant impact, catching 36 passes for 609 yards and four touchdowns.

Camden Overton – Marietta
The Marietta Blue Devils have been slinging the ball around all year in their pass-happy offense, and Overton is a big reason why. He’s having a breakout senior season due to his chemistry with senior QB Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA . Overton is a big-bodied receiver with length who knows how to go up and snag the football. His size and reliable hands make him an excellent option in the redzone and Overton has found it four times this year. In total he’s caught 38 passes for 609 yards. His best game of the season came in their week one loss to Colquitt County when he caught 7 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown.

Jake Johnson Jake Johnson 6'5" | 210 lbs | TE Oconee County | 2022 State GA – Oconee County
Another one of the top-ranked tight ends across the country, Johnson is a soft-handed pass catcher who has been tough to stop for a solid three years now. He was a big recruit as an underclassmen due to his size, length, and above average athleticism. The LSU Tiger commitment is a big target at 6-foot-5 220-pounds who makes an instant impact in the passing game. Johnson is the son of former Super Bowl winning QB Brad Johnson and the brother of current LSU QB Max Johnson. The senior is fundamentally sound, an above-average great route runner, and knows how to go up and make a play on the football. So far this season, Johnson has caught 33 passes for 533 yards and six touchdowns.
Jackson Head – River Ridge
Still one of the more underrated playmakers in North Georgia, Head is a dynamic WR/TE type who can be lined up anywhere in order to make plays. He was outstanding as a sophomore last year for his River Ridge squad and has followed it up with a big junior season so far. As a TE/WR, he has great body control and understands how to use his size to shield off smaller defenders. He has very good hands, catching most everything in his vicinity. He’s as reliable as it gets in the passing game, catching 34 balls so far this year for 510 yards and three touchdowns.

Carson Weaver – Murray County
Up in North West Georgia is where you’ll find one of the more breakout senior tight ends in the state. He may not be a highly-ranked prospect, but he deserves some recognition for his play so far this season. At 6-foot-3 190-pounds, Weaver is a WR/TE hybrid who uses his size to his advantage against smaller defenders. He’s a two-sport start who also stands out on the basketball court, but right now he’s dominating his opponents on the gridiron. So far this season, Weaver has caught 24 passes for 455 yards and 4 touchdowns.
