MATER DEI
[player_tooltip player_id="147708" first="Elijah" last="Brown"]: The sophomore quarterback was sensational for the Monarchs and has proved that he is the next star quarterback to come out of Mater Dei. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 263 yards and five touchdowns in the win against Bosco. He can move well in the pocket to avoid pressure and extend plays. He throws a beautiful deep ball and can create space for his receivers when they are well-covered with his throws. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and already is a top three quarterback in Orange County.

[player_tooltip player_id="25278" first="Cooper" last="Barkate"]: Barkate went from playing at St. Margaret’s, a school with an enrollment lower than 500, to showing up on the big stage against St. John Bosco. He caught four passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns. He created space against the best cornerbacks he has ever faced and is excellent at making plays after the catch. He missed much of his junior season due to injury and has worked very hard to get to this moment. The Mater Dei coaching staff loves what he brings to the offense and if he stays committed to Harvard, he could be an Ivy League Player of the Year in the future.

[player_tooltip player_id="25225" first="Raleek" last="Brown"]: Brown is one of the fastest backs in the state and he hits the hole so quickly that the defense has no time to react. He is dangerous in the open field and despite his size, can break tackles very well. His numbers weren’t spectacular against Bosco, rushing for 93 yards on 21 carries with no touchdowns, but his ability forced Bosco to pay attention to the running game and give Elijah more space to throw the ball. He will be a huge asset for Oklahoma.

Sione Tohi: The entire offensive line played well for Mater Dei, but someone who stood out to me was freshman Sione Tohi. He is an excellent run blocker and gets to the second level quickly. He has great strength for a freshman and did a fine job against good Bosco defensive linemen. I expect him to be a national recruit in the near future and an All-Trinity League lineman as a freshman.
[player_tooltip player_id="25224" first="CJ" last="Williams"]: Williams was predictably one of the best players on the field last Friday and proved that no high school player can cover him in man coverage. Whenever Bosco left a corner on him on an island, Mater Dei made them pay for it. He had two touchdowns including a nice catch on a fade route against a very good Bosco corner. He is one of the best receivers in the country and could make an early impact at Notre Dame.

ST. JOHN BOSCO
[player_tooltip player_id="25273" first="Katin" last="Houser"]/[player_tooltip player_id="25367" first="Pierce" last="Clarkson"]: Both quarterbacks played well and most importantly, didn’t turn the ball over. Houser threw a beautiful pass on a fade route to the far side of the field that was a college-level throw. Both quarterbacks made plays with their legs and made good decisions with the ball. Clarkson had better numbers but both quarterbacks led the Braves on quality scoring drives.

[player_tooltip player_id="143115" first="Chedon" last="James"]: The Bosco receivers did a good job throughout the game in finding holes in Mater Dei’s zone defense and creating space when they played man. The best one though was James who was a matchup nightmare for the Monarchs. He caught seven passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. James is committed to Air Force.

[player_tooltip player_id="186985" first="Maicah" last="Talavou"]: Much like Mater Dei’s offensive line, the Bosco line largely played well. [player_tooltip player_id="25226" first="Earnest" last="Greene"] was very good as expected, but Talavou impressed me. He has really good footwork as a pass blocking guard and has the size to move out to tackle if needed. He is 6-foot-2, and 280-pounds but plays like a much larger lineman. He can pull when needed and is a quality run blocker. He has offers from Army and Navy and I’m surprised that he doesn’t have more offers.

Colin Chase: Chase is a transfer from Orange Lutheran who was playing his first game for the Braves. He made a huge impact, catching three passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. He broke tackles and ran very good routes for someone who hasn’t played in months. Bosco has a lot of depth at receiver but the coaching staff trusted Chase enough to start because of how well he has played at practice. Kenyon College has offered him and he has drawn interest from Ivy League schools.
