Previously, we spotlighted these four games, which take place around the area Friday night.
Newell-Fonda at Lenox
When you score 40 offensive touchdowns, regardless of the size of the class, it makes waves. That is exactly what Mason Dicks has done this year for Newell-Fonda.
Just a junior, Dicks has shined in the Mustang offense, recording 1,345 passing yards with 19 scores while running for 1,221 and 21 more. That is a nose for the end zone, and an ability to win games.
Dicks has great leadership, as the multi-sport standout guides by example. He might not be a future college quarterback, but you could work him in at the slot in an open offense with the ability to run sweeps and even trick plays out of the position for him.
Iowa Falls-Alden at Southeast Valley
Karson Sharar led Iowa Falls-Alden last year and kick-started a movement that has led to a 6-3 record this year. Tasked with the job of replacing Sharar was Kacen Boyer, and the junior has delivered.
Boyer has rushed for 906 yards and 10 touchdowns while also adding production in the passing game. The Cadets lean on the 5-foot-10 back for their offense.
Speed, quickness and excellent field vision are just a few of the attributes that Boyer presents. He is able to wait patiently for the right opening by using his game-breaking speed to get down the field.
Algona at Sergeant Bluff-Luton
After picking up an offer from junior college power Iowa Central recently, Tyler Manske Tyler Manske 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Algona | 2022 State IA begins another postseason journey. As a sophomore, he led Algona to the state semifinals. Now, the offense is all Manske’s.
The senior has thrown for 1,845 yards and 22 scores, displaying a rocket of an arm. Manske has no problems sending his receivers deep and airing it out, providing a perfectly thrown ball more times than not.
He has also continued to improve his ball skills, running the RPO to tremendous success with 354 yards and three more scores. Manske has made incredible strides with each passing year, and working closely with a QB coach at the next level could really pay off for him.
Norwalk at Webster City
The Webster City football program is a lot like the New England Patriots. They tend to be a group effort week in and week out, and when someone moves on, the next standout takes their place.
Sophomore Jaxon Cherry Jaxon Cherry 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Webster City | 2024 State IA is that next man in. Cherry has rushed for nearly 700 yards and 13 touchdowns, but it has been his impact on defense that has helped the Lynx to another district title.
The 6-foot-2, 210 pound Cherry has 44 tackles with two sacks and three for loss. He’s also showed his athletic abilities by returning kicks and catching a pass. This is definitely a future defensive superstar to watch for the next two years.
