Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce a teams way and unfortunately for them, they came up just a few plays short. That doesn’t mean there aren’t talented players on the roster and here are the Huskies that performed at a high level Friday night.
2022 Quarterback Jimmy Makuh Jimmy Makuh 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Hersey | 2022 State IL (6’3” and 175lbs) @jimmy_makuh
It wasn’t the best performance from Makuh, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t show the qualities that make a great quarterback. He is mobile, in and out of the pocket, buys himself enough time to get away from a pass rush. Makuh’s arm is strong enough to make the all of the throws, he just needs to know when to change his pace of throws more often.
It’s great seeing a quarterback that understand how to make touch throws at a young age @jimmy_makuh pic.twitter.com/l01cZ3NJNJ

He’s got the ability, just needs to figure out when to do so. Great size and there’s room to continue to add weight on as well, Makuh doesn’t post much about his recruiting but he surely can be a difference maker at the next level.
2024 Athlete Carson Grove (5’10” and 165lbs) @Carsongrove11
Prior to the game, the Hersey coaches told me to watch out for their young sophomore two-way player and he didn’t disappoint. Athletic with a great frame, runs very well and extremely smooth in his movements.
Get to know @Carsongrove11 he’s a big time athlete who has a lot of potential pic.twitter.com/UCI7TcW1L5

His progression over the next few years will dictate which position he’ll line up in college. Grove played a variety of positions, from cornerback, to running back to wide receiver and looked like he should be a big time prospect by the time he gets ready to sign. It’s time to get to know this impressive sophomore.
2023 Defensive back Jack Armstrong (5’10” and 170lbs) @jarmstrong225
Playing an undersized linebacker really gives Armstrong a leg up on his future position, safety. He’s fantastic in run support, recognizing plays early and taking good angles to cut off the ball carrier. Armstrong will continue to add weight as he gets older filling out into his frame. He will need to improve on some of his coverage skills, but that will come with more experience. I expect that Armstrong will be on many teams radars next fall.
2023 Safety Johnny Ryg (6’1” and 190lbs) @RygJohnny
The versatility is impressive, Ryg has the frame to add on weight and become a very solid linebacker as well. At the moment he lines up as a safety, one that does well reading plays and coming up in run support.
Like he’s shot out of a cannon when @RygJohnny diagnoses the play pic.twitter.com/jFHqi92gk7

There wasn’t much to go off of in the way of defending the pass, Buffalo Grove was really trying to keep the ball out of the air. I still liked the fact that Ryg is very good at defending the run, and the potential is there for more of a well rounded player in the future.
2022 Cornerback Danny McInerney (6’1” and 175lbs) @Danny_Mac24
I really liked McInerney size while watching warmups and he played up to his potential during the game. He’s long and athletic, not afraid to come up and make a hit, while having good hips to turn and run with receivers.

What really impressed me was his willingness to come up in run support, showing that he’s not a one-dimensional corner. McInerney can add on more weight as well and is most likely being under-recruited at the moment.
2022 Defensive end Josh Cataldo (6’2” and 200lbs) @josh_cataldo
Another undersized player, Cataldo still was a force off the edge. He was quick with his hands, strong at the point of attack and finishes plays. Cataldo took down the quarterback for a sack early in the contest, showing that despite his smaller size, he can make plays in the backfield. At this point, he’s most likely a situational pass rusher, but could develop into more over time.
2023 Offensive lineman Zach Ott (6’1” and 275lbs) @ZachOtt07208810
The interior offensive lineman was a load all night on the interior. Much of the pressure that Hersey allowed came from the edges, meaning that Ott was holding his own against the defensive tackles. He has solid burst off the line, really using his feet well to anchor down and stand his ground. With another year under his belt, Ott can be a very good guard at the next level.
2023 Lineman Oleg Simikov (6’7” and 255lbs)
There’s one thing you can’t do, and that is teach size. Simikov is extremely raw but is massive in stature. He needs to work on his bend and technique, but taking a filer on a player his size often turns out pretty well for teams. If he really puts in the work during the offseason, there a lot of potential that Simikov could be a bookend tackle down the line.
