Continue ReadingThe Good Counsel Falcons remain perfect in the WCAC after a huge win against the Bishop McNamara Mustangs. The contest was close in the first quarter, but in the second quarter Good Counsel went on the offensive and went up 17-7 at halftime. With their star studded Sophomore class leading the charge, the Falcons ran away with this game in the later quarters and they pulled out a much needed win to keep their WCAC championship hopes alive. Let’s take a closer look at the standout players from this key matchup.
GOOD COUNSEL 30
2024 6’5 175 QB – Frankie Weaver
Frankie Weaver played one of his most consistent games of the season in this one. He demonstrated his quick release and ball protection, and both of which are at elite levels for his age. He also threw a game sealing touchdown pass to Shane Carroll in the back of the end zone, putting the Falcons up by three touchdowns late. Frankie Weaver gives the Good Counsel Falcons a legitimate chance to win the WCAC title this year, and, given that he is a Sophomore, that is an extremely impressive feat in and of itself. The future for Good Counsel football is bright with Frankie Weaver.
2024 6’0 180 RB – Dilin Jones
Dilin Jones ran the ball very effectively, and he also found the end zone early on in the contest. His quickness combined with his physicality were both too much for the McNamara defense, and he was able to exploit holes in the defensive line all game long. Jones also blocked efficiently in the backfield for his quarterback and classmate, Frankie Weaver. The Good Counsel backfield might be young, but it is also elite and Dilin Jones is a huge reason for that.
2025 5’11 180 RB – Peyton Nelson Peyton Nelson 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Dr. Henry A. Wise | 2025 State MD
When you watch Peyton Nelson Peyton Nelson 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Dr. Henry A. Wise | 2025 State MD run it does not feel like you are watching a Freshman in high school. It feels like you are watching a college level running back, and the reasons for that are his speed and his vision. Nelson runs the ball with extreme confidence, and that’s because he always knows exactly where he wants to go with the ball. His movements are elusive and creative, and the fact that he is a Freshman is crazy because he has already shown that he is an elite running back. He demonstrated all of this and more against McNamara, and he even added a touchdown. Peyton Nelson Peyton Nelson 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Dr. Henry A. Wise | 2025 State MD should be on every scout’s radar, and he is certainly going to do great things in the WCAC and beyond at the division one level.
2022 6’1 165 WR – Shane Carroll
Out of every receiver in the WCAC, Shane Carroll has some of the most elite level route running skills. He was so effective against McNamara that, at times, they didn’t even know where was at all. On his touchdown reception, specifically, he was uncovered because of the effectiveness of his route. He never drops passes, and he has clearly established himself as the go to receiver on third down. Shane Carroll should be awarded All-WCAC honors this year because he has had yet another phenomenal year for the Falcons. He will be a fantastic D1 receiver.
BISHOP MCNAMARA 9
2022 5’11 190 QB – Jordan Adams Jordan Adams 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Frederick Douglass | 2021 MD
Jordan Adams Jordan Adams 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Frederick Douglass | 2021 MD began this contest red hot, and he delivered a perfect touchdown pass to his favorite receiver, Austin Palmer. After the first quarter, the Good Counsel defensive line applied a ton of pressure on Adams, and it was difficult for him to get going as a result. What Adams showed in this game was his toughness and maturity. He was durable throughout the game, taking a lot of big time hits, and he never gave up on his team or lost confidence in the pocket. Even though McNamara now remains winless in the WCAC, there’s no doubt that Jordan Adams Jordan Adams 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Frederick Douglass | 2021 MD and the Mustangs will bounce back in a big way this Saturday against Gonzaga.
2023 6’3 180 WR – Austin Palmer
Austin Palmer has established himself as the clear #1 receiver on this Bishop McNamara team this season. His ability to extend plays and gain yards after contact is second to none, and he demonstrated that clearly on his highlight reel touchdown reception. Palmer’s incredible coordination allows him to catch balls even when he is defended perfectly, therefore it would be wise of his WCAC opponents in the near future to double cover him. If they don’t, then it will be a long day for whoever is matched up with Austin Palmer.
