The Good Counsel Falcons earned their third consecutive victory this past weekend, and they did so in shutout style against a historically dominant Gonzaga Purple Eagles program. The Falcons are now undefeated in WCAC play, and they’ll look to continue that unbeaten streak tonight against Bishop McNamara. Good Counsel is playing great football at just the right time, and with a win tonight they’re right back in the WCAC title picture. The Falcons face the Mustangs tonight @7PM, but first let’s highlight the key players from last weekend’s WCAC matchup. GOOD COUNSEL 17 2022 6’1 225 LB – Gary Bryant Gary Bryant is the most experienced and effective linebacker on this Good Counsel squad. He disrupted Gonzaga’s pass attack relentlessly, falling back into coverage and also breaching the backfield. Bryant showed his elite level football intelligence in this game. He is one of the smartest players on the field in any game that he plays, which is extremely impressive in a powerhouse conference like the WCAC, and that will certainly be the case tonight against McNamara. Gary Bryant is an elite D1 talent and it is truly exciting to think about how great he is going to be at the next level. 2024 6’3 190 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="172212" first="Elijah" last="Moore"] [player_tooltip player_id="172212" first="Elijah" last="Moore"] is the most targeted receiver on Good Counsel, making him the favorite target of Falcon Sophomore quarterback Frankie Weaver. The two connected for crucial first downs and big plays consistently, and Moore’s dominance allowed for other Falcon receivers, like Shane Carroll, to become more of a factor in the contest. With his size and elite route running ability, [player_tooltip player_id="172212" first="Elijah" last="Moore"] is set to have another big game tonight against Bishop McNamara. 2024 6’5 175 QB – Frankie Weaver It looks like the Good Counsel Falcons have found their future quarterback. They’re undefeated since losing to St. Frances Academy a month ago, which also means that they’re undefeated since starting Frankie Weaver at quarterback against Mount St. Joseph. Weaver has incredible size for his age, and his length allows him to avoid disruption from opposing defenses in order to make throws. His completion percentage is rising steadily, and if he continues to play like he has then tonight the Falcons will certainly earn the victory against Bishop McNamara. Frankie Weaver is a young quarterback who should be on every scout’s radar. 2024 6’3 215 LB – [player_tooltip player_id="172218" first="Aaron" last="Chiles"] [player_tooltip player_id="172218" first="Aaron" last="Chiles"] dominated the Gonzaga offensive line in this contest. He made crucial tackles throughout the contest, and he even earned an individual sack. Chiles is clearly one of the top linebackers in the 2024 class, as he’s already made his impact felt as a Sophomore. His size and speed will be a huge problem tonight for Bishop McNamara’s offensive line, and it wouldn’t be surprising if [player_tooltip player_id="172218" first="Aaron" last="Chiles"] continues to dominate. The Sophomore is going to do big things in the coming years, and we are seeing flashes of that now. 2023 6’4 275 OL – KJ Brooks The Good Counsel offensive line deserves a ton of credit for this victory. KJ Brooks performed off the charts fantastic, and his ability to protect Frankie Weaver made all of the difference in the world during this contest. Brooks also stifled Gonzaga’s pass rush attempts to the point that the Purple Eagles just flat out stopped blitzing from the left side, as to avoid Brooks. KJ Brooks faces a skilled Bishop McNamara defensive line tonight, however, if Brooks maintains his usual level of dominance then it’ll be a long night for the Mustangs’ pass rush. GONZAGA 0 2022 6’1 215 LB – [player_tooltip player_id="90554" first="Jordan" last="Shuler"] [player_tooltip player_id="90554" first="Jordan" last="Shuler"] has played great in every game this season for Gonzaga. The Purple Eagles’ defense was able to keep the game close for the majority of the contest, in large part because of Shuler, however, Good Counsel was just a little bit too much for them and Gonzaga’s offense just never got going. Gonzaga does not play this week, but expect dominance from [player_tooltip player_id="90554" first="Jordan" last="Shuler"] next week when they do. 2023 5’11 180 WR – Jalen McDonald This season has been a breakout one for Jalen McDonald. The Junior pass catcher is cementing himself as the #1 wideout option on this Purple Eagles team, and he has consistently commanded the largest role. The long term future looks bright for the Gonzaga offense, and they’ll definitely score more points against Bishop McNamara with McDonald leading the charge. He will without a doubt have a big game tonight, as he has done so all season.
