Week eight was full of a bunch of talent from across the state of Alabama. But I had the chance to revisit the Gardendale high school rockets once again. This revisit did not disappoint at all. The Gardendale Rockets took down the Jackson Olin Mustangs in a very intense match up. The Gardendale Rockets came out very aggressively and took charge from the beginning to the end of the game. The Gardendale Rockets offense put on a show for the fans on a very special night called homecoming. The Rockets put up 28 points against the Jackson Olin High School Mustangs with the help of a group of offensive weapons. I have taken a look at a few athletes that have caught my attention previously, and there were some new athletes that stood out to me during this game as well. The Gardendale rocket is locked and loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball and has fueled themselves for the rest of the season going into the playoffs.
LT Sander, No.7, RB
What a night LT Sanders had with the Gardendale rockets versus the Jackson Olin high school mustangs. This kid plays with so much passion each and every week, which allows him to dominate in the game. LT Sanders ran the ball extremely well for the Rockets. When he gets out on the edge into space, he is liable to shake you out of your shoes or turn on the hit stick and run over anyone in his way. This kid is such an electrifying running back and a highlighted player in the state of Alabama as he ranks as a three star running back in the class of 2022. Sanders racked up a ton of touchdowns for the rock that led them to a huge victory over the number 10 ranked Jackson Olin high school Mustangs.

Lawson Hughes, No.69, OL
Lawson Hughes was a dominant player for the Gardendale High School offensive line. Lawson was one of my favorite players to watch in this game, while he was blocking Jackson Olin Jourdin Crawford Jourdin Crawford 6'3" | 290 lbs | DL Parker | 2025 State AL extremely well. Lawson is a 6’4 290-pound offensive lineman in the class of 2024 who has proven to me that he will be a viable prospect for the Gardendale Rockets. The way this lineman was moving all over the field with great technique and flexibility to block a top defense lineman for the Mustangs is something that is going to pay off in the long run.
Colby Thomas, No.41, K/P
This kid is absolutely amazing at all the positions he plays. Against the Jackson Olin Mustangs, Colby Thomas was kicking the ball all over the field.Colby was punting the football in the right places for the Gardendale rockets, where I timed a few of his punts and clocked him at a 4.8 hang time, which is excellent for a kicker, and he also had tremendous distance on the ball. This kid was something special for the Rockets, and looking at the Rockets’ social media, it seems like he was a player of the week type of player for the Rockets recently in the past. Colby is a very talented kicker and is also talented in the classroom, maintaining a 4.2 GPA. This kid should be on all in-state schools’ radar as a kicker for their team.
Defensive Overview
This break down shows the very talented defensive players for the Rockies that have made a huge impact on the 28-20 win over the Jackson Olin Mustangs. Each and every week, these groups get stronger and more talented during these types of games. There are also new faces that contribute to the team’s success and the defense’s success versus any opponent they play.
Caleb Harrell, No. 93, DL
This kid, Caleb Harrell, is an all-around lineman who plays offensive and defensive line for the Gardendale Rockets. Caleb played very well on the offensive line, but his presence on the defensive line was outstanding and very much needed for the Rockets. Caleb is a very strong and physical lineman that receives a lot of recognition not only on the field but in the classroom as well with a 3.8 GPA. Caleb was shedding double teams all night, clearing the way for the rockets to make tackles in the backfield.Thinking back on my very first time watching this kid, I realized that he is a true team leader that everyone on the team respects and looks up to. Caleb is a great prospect to add to the books and will continue to thrive to be the best at what he does.

Dallas Young Dallas Young 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Gardendale | 2023 State AL , No.1, DB
A fluid defensive back who can chase down and catch anything that flies his way is Dallas Young Dallas Young 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Gardendale | 2023 State AL . Dallas Young Dallas Young 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Gardendale | 2023 State AL is a very agile and mobile defensive back for the Rockets. This kid has outstanding footwork, excellent flexibility, and does a really good job of getting back to the ball. Dallas is very fast and efficient when it comes to making decisions and dealing with high-tempo situations. I truly believe that this stud is a top defensive back I the state holding multiple Division 1 offers. This kid shows up each and every week with a different mindset to not only dominate, but dominate at a different level each and every game.
Kelby Collins Kelby Collins 6'5" | 250 lbs | DL Gardendale | 2023 State AL , No.17, DL
Kelby is a player that you cannot help but talk about when it comes to athleticism, dominance, and sack maniac mindset. Kelby is such a good defensive lineman for the Gardendale high school rockets that he almost always finds himself in the backfield. This kid has such a bright future and it will only get better as his career goes. Kelby had multiple tackles for loss during the game versus Jackson Olin as well as leading the team in tackles on the defensive line. Kelby is a kid that shows up every Friday night looking for an opportunity to dominate and get better. He is the true definition of a great lineman because of his size and ability to play bigger than he already is.This kid is a wrecking ball for the Rockets’ defense, where his presence allows his teammates to make plays as well, because while he is taking on a double team and demolishing them, he creates open lanes for his teammates to run through and make tackles in open gaps. Just the fact that Kelby is a high rated player and proves why every night says a lot and I’m all for it
