This team still has plenty of talent and they showed up throughout the night. Here are some game balls handed out to Broomfield for Week 9.
Thomas Rathman, 2022, 6’1, 180, TE/LB
Despite playing with a cast on his wrist, Rathman made plenty of plays from his outside linebacker spot. He was able to get in the backfield and get some stops against the run, and he did a good job setting an edge that allowed his teammates to get to the ball carrier on some outside run attempts. With him playing close to the line of scrimmage, he did show great range when dropping into coverage against the pass to take away some throws in the flats. He was also a willing defender to go up against bigger offensive lineman and showed plenty of fight from his position. The versatility he displayed allowed him to make some plays or set up his teammates to make some stops throughout the night.
Cole LaCrue Cole LaCrue 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Broomfield | 2023 State CO , 2023, 6’2, 190, QB
The other dual-threat quarterback on the field Friday night, LaCrue showed big play ability with his arm and his legs. When it came to throwing the football, he shows great arm strength. He can take the deep shot and hit a nice deep pass in the second half, but where his arm strength was on display was throwing to the outside and fitting a tight spiral into a small window for his receivers to have a chance to make the catch. As for his legs, he has the speed to break in the open field, but he also showed great patience on designed quarterback runs, allowing his blocks to be set up and find the hole right when it opened. LaCrue is also a team captain and showed those leadership skills you want from the quarterback position for his team. On his social media page, he has shared interested from Colorado, Colorado State and Kansas in recent weeks.
Landon Davidson, 2024, 6’4, 280, OL/DL
While still young in his varsity career, Davidson looks to be a key cog up front that Broomfield will be able to lean on for the next couple of years. Playing at right tackle, he did a great job run blocking and setting up some runs for his backs. He got up to the second level a number of times, and he did a great job getting a push at the line of scrimmage with the defensive line. He is physical at the point of attack and stays engaged on his blocks. His blocking stood out against a formidable defense he faced, and if that play continues, Davidson will be a nice offensive line prospect for his class to follow.
Josh Dunn Josh Dunn WR Broomfield | 2022 State CO , 2022, 6’4, 190, WR/DB
Dunn looks the part from his wide receiver spot. He ran quick routes and created separation in his breaks on the out routes towards the sideline. When the ball is delivered to him, he snatches the ball with his hands and uses them to catch the pass instead of trying to corral it with his body. He’s willing to dive and stretch out for passes, giving his all to make a competition. His 6-foot-4 frame and long arms gives him a nice catching radius to make a number of plays for his team. You know that you have a hard worker in Dunn as well by looking at the number of camps and workouts he took part in during the offseason to raise his recruiting stock, including a recent offer from Western Colorado back on Sept. 30.
