Seven of the ten teams in the league were able to punch a ticket to the playoffs with Piqua earning a #1 Seed in Division II Region 8 and taking home the league championship for the second year in a row. Piqua secured the league championship outright with a statement win over Stebbins. The game was routine for the Piqua Indians who have consistently outperformed their opponents this season. The outstanding players of the game are as follows:
Piqua Indians
Jasiah Medley 6’0 190 lbs. ℅ 22 RB/FS Medley has legit 4.4 speed that converts to the playing field. Is a touchdown just waiting to happen! Will break away from second and third-level defenders with ease and is very rarely caught in the open field. Rushed for 304 yards on 16 attempts and 4 touchdowns vs. Stebbins. As the season has progressed, so has his vision and anticipation. Uses his blockers downfield very well.
Cory Miller 5’11 180 lbs. ℅ 22 WR Miller started the scoring catching a 40-yard bomb and sprinting to the endzone. Cory is a crafty receiver that is comfortable working over the middle. He is also a very willing run blocker. Miller is just an all-around football player.
Jackson Trombley 5’11 180 lbs ℅ 23 K Trombley has a very strong leg and consistently kicks touchbacks. Has started to garner interest in MAC schools. Although he hasn’t kicked many field goals this season, he definitely has the leg strength to drive the ball from 40 yards out.
Braiden Strayer 5’10 169 lbs. ℅ 22 DB Strayer turned in another top-notch performance from the Cornerback position Friday night. He had 6 solo tackles and a huge interception. He finished the regular season with 7 total and led the league. Strayer is an instinctive zone corner. Is very aggressive in Run Defense( will come up and tackle the ball carrier )
Landon Hare 6’2 214 lbs. ℅ 22 DE Hare pressured the quarterback all night at Stebbins culminating in a huge sack to stop a Stebbins drive. Landon is a high motor/energy player. Seems to perform best when the situation is critical. Has good technique and is very aggressive through the whistle.
Sam Schmiesing 6’2 223 lbs c/o 23 MLB Schmeising has really grown literally and figuratively into an athletic linebacker this season. He is very rarely caught out of position and as a result, has totaled 107 total tackles this season which is good for second overall in the MVL. Sam has a quick first step that allows him to get underneath lineman trying to release to the second level. Can also fill gaps with strength.
Stebbins Indians
It was a tough outing for Stebbins last Friday. The team was never able to get a solid rhythm due to the Piqua Defense and the weather. However, they had a few players that were able to put together some decent film.
Nate Keller Nate Keller 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Stebbins | 2022 OH 6’0 180 lbs ℅ 22 QB Keller completed 16 0f 32 passes for 164 yards 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. It was a wet and rainy night but Keller still looked comfortable. On both interceptions, the ball was in a good spot but the defender just outplayed the receiver. Keller also moved well in the pocket avoiding pressure consistently. He threw a beautiful 48-yard strike to Adrian Norton 6’0 190 lbs ℅ 23 WR.
Omar Holloway 6’1 195 lbs ℅ 22 RB Holloway is a prototypical slasher. He’ll make one cut and get upfield quickly. Has a good frame that will support growth.
