To this point of the season, the Canes have managed to achieve an 8-0 record, with 4 of their wins being within their region. The regional opponents in which they have defeated include that of Woodland, Hiram, Cass, and Blessed Trinity. In only one of these games did they score less than 40 points, which is impressive to say the very least. Going into this weeks game against Calhoun, Cartersville has a chance of achieving a perfect regular season. This won’t come easy due to the fact that Calhoun has had a successful season as well, and currently sits at 8-1, with their only loss having been to McCallie High School.
Undeniably, many high school football fans have been checking in to see the success of Trevor Lawrence’s alma mater. Impressive enough, the Canes have had just as much success on the defensive side of the ball as they have had on offense. This season, they have only allowed 122 points. What makes this even better, is that this has come over a 8 game span. Needless to say, the defense has gotten the job done, and there have been plenty of reasons why. To start, the defense has 9 players with double digit tackles, with a team total of over 270 tackles so far this season. While some of these tackles came in key points of games, we also recognize that the defense has also contributed to a positive momentum for the overall team. This is largely due to players such as Nasir Grandberry, Ben Robinson, Tate Smith, and Keylan McCarty, who have each recorded sacks, and QB hurries. These pressures have been huge for the defense, as it has also influenced bad decisions for opposing passers, which have also turned into turnovers. In total, the team has had about 6 total forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions. The recipients of these interceptions include players such as Chris Ryan and Tate Smith.
As you could expect, the Canes offense has been on fire as well. In total, they have scored over 260 points, making for an all around explosive offensive side of the football. Senior QB, Drake Parker has led the siege, as he has thrown for over 1,030 yards, and has thrown for 13 TD’s, to only 2 interceptions. The primary targets for Parker include that of Jacob Ray, Amari White, Brynen Wilkins, Collin Fletcher, and Kendrick Price. With this, the running game for the Canes has been on an absolute roll. As a team, they have rushed for 27 TD’s, with a majority of them having been scored by Malachi Jeffries, and Amari White. To be specific, Jeffries has scored 10 so far this year, and White has scored 9. Additional players such as Paul Gamble, Dorian Randle, Khristian Lando, and Keylan McCarty have also had touches, making for a well rounded rushing attack that always sets out to keep opposing defenses honest.
