On Monday, we had our final prospect ranking update as we updated the 2022 Top 150. Now, we start diving into those rankings and identifying some of the biggest movers and new faces within the ranking update. In this post, it’s part two of a two part feature looking at some of those new faces that were not in the rankings back in June. But they find themselves there now. [player_tooltip player_id="200116" first="Alan" last="McKeefry"] - Quarterback - Spiro
We kick things off with a literal new face to Oklahoma high school football. Spiro quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="200116" first="Alan" last="McKeefry"] was playing high school ball in California last year. However, when his quarterback trainer Brett Davis became the new head coach at Spiro, McKeefry followed. And instantly became one of the standout quarterbacks in the area and it’s not that difficult to see why when you watch the Bulldogs on Friday night. McKeefry is 6’4 and passes the eye test when it comes to the physical part of the position. And then the offense that Davis has installed certainly favors the quarterback as McKeefry has put up some monster numbers, throwing the ball all over the yard for the Bulldogs this fall. McKeefry certainly has to be considered a hidden gem in this 2022 class considering this is his first year in Oklahoma. However, he checks off a lot of things that a college program would want from their quarterback. Now McKeefry has to overcome what has become a plague in recruiting and that’s the transfer portal. We just aren’t seeing as many senior quarterbacks get signed as we have in the past.
[player_tooltip player_id="200525" first="Chance" last="Johnson"] - Punter - Mustang
Shout out to the special teams unit! Another prospect that is making his debut in the recent ranking update is Mustang specialist [player_tooltip player_id="200525" first="Chance" last="Johnson"]. We write all the time how it is so difficult to compare a kicker to another position when it comes to overall rankings. But one thing is consistent when it comes to that and that’s if a kicker belongs in the rankings, he’s going to be ranked. And in our opinion, Mustang’s [player_tooltip player_id="200525" first="Chance" last="Johnson"] is one of the best in the state. Specifically, Johnson seems to be at his best as a punter and as a kickoff specialist for the Broncos. The one time I got a chance to see Mustang in person, I couldn’t help but be stunned how Johnson was effortlessly putting the ball in the back of the end zone. Ask any special teams coach and he’ll gladly tell you how that is an incredible weapon to have in the kicking game. If a team can’t even field the kick, it’s going to be hard for them to hurt you in the return game. Johnson has an outstanding leg and we absolutely could see him being a high level prospect for punting and as a kickoff specialist.
[player_tooltip player_id="188008" first="ElTramane" last="Neal"] - Wide Receiver - Edmond Santa Fe
One of the earliest prospects we saw this season and knew he was primed for a breakout season was Edmond Santa Fe senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="188008" first="ElTramane" last="Neal"]. We knew that the Wolves would have a pretty good passing attack with quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="61144" first="Scott" last="Pfieffer"] and the Shettron brothers returning. But adding a player like Neal into the mix would give the Wolves the ability to really stress opposing defenses. If a team tried to double team [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"], Neal would be on the other side, able and ready to make the defense pay for that mistake. He’s had a nice breakout season and the Wolves are once again in the hunt in Class 6A-1. Most of the attention this year and really over the last few years has been on Shettron but Neal is a strong wide receiver prospect. He got better throughout the year last year and has only continued that this fall. He’s certainly a prospect that still needs to grow in certain areas but he is a high ceiling prospect in our opinion. If you’re a college looking for a potential game changer at the receiver position, I would bet on Neal growing into that at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="64999" first="Macuric" last="Demry"] - Athlete - Will Rogers
We wrote about [player_tooltip player_id="64999" first="Macuric" last="Demry"], the Will Rogers standout over the weekend because he once again put up monster numbers in their victory over Durant and he earned his spot as a "Top Performer" for week eight. Demry also earned his spot on this list and was a no brainer to be on the latest ranking update after the season that he’s having this year for the Ropers. And the following is not a knock on the Will Rogers program, it’s just stating the facts. For those unfamiliar, Will Rogers has been a down football program for the majority of the last two decades. The Ropers might end up on the outside of the playoffs once again this year but just the fact that they’re still in the conversation and it’s week nine is the complete opposite of what they’re used to. And normally we would say "Demry is a big reason behind that." No. Demry is THE reason behind that. The Will Rogers standout is one of the more electric players in Oklahoma. And yes, football is a team sport, so he needs his teammates to be successful. But Demry has been a complete gamechanger and is one of the more underrated prospects in Oklahoma’s 2022 class.
[player_tooltip player_id="197182" first="Miles" last="Hill"] - Defensive End - Bixby
It really shouldn’t be a surprise that Bixby has a few breakout stars on this year’s team. The Spartans are once again primed for another state championship run and are in the middle of a winning streak that is on pace to set the state record with 49 consecutive wins. One thing that has made this year’s Bixby team different from the other dominant teams in recent memory is just how nasty the defense is for the Spartans. Especially on the front seven. The mix of linemen and linebackers makes this a Bixby defense that is absolutely suffocating for opposing offenses. One of the breakout stars of the defense in our opinion has been senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="197182" first="Miles" last="Hill"]. The Spartans use Hill in a variety of ways on the defensive side of the ball but when it comes to what he could be at the next level, we like his abilities at the defensive end position. Hill is ferocious at the snap of the ball and he leads the way for a Bixby defense that is great at containing an opposing running game or shutting down the opposing quarterback. Hill has been a breakout star for the Spartans on defense and his recruiting stock should reflect that.
