Week 10 will bring some more important games as the race for the playoffs heads into the final week – as teams will know their fate after a full slate of games that began on Wednesday in south Florida and will continue until Saturday night.
Each and every week during the season, we highlight 10 games across the Sunshine State to keep an eye on – and this week will not disappoint.
Be sure to check out any of these key matchups for tonight:
No. 21 St. Petersburg Lakewood (4A, 8-0) at No. 5 Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (3A, 6-1). Very interesting game here – where two very good football teams will square off in Hollywood. We all know about Chaminade-Madonna and how they have beaten two defending state champions, which includes a Georgia powerhouse. The Spartans rarely lose in the regular season and are scoring machine. Something has to give here: the best offense against the best defense!
Sarasota Riverview (8A, 7-1) at No. 8 Venice (8A, 7-1). After the first loss of the season, the Indians are in no mood to mess around. They are laser focused on this huge matchup that come in favored in, but this is a solid team that the Rams have and know how impressive Venice is.
No. 13 Miami Gulliver Prep (4A, 5-1) at West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman (3A, 7-2). On the surface, this may appear to be just any game, but the Raiders and Crusaders come into this game hungry to showcase skills. Gulliver has not played all of their games this season and are anxious to get things moving toward the playoffs. Coach Jack Daniels and his Cardinal Newman team has played outstanding football.
No. 19. Cocoa (4A, 6-1) at Lake Minneola (6A, 5-3). Besides Chaminade-Madonna and Venice, very few teams have played the schedule that head coach Ryan Schneider’s Tigers have played, and while they are locking it up with the defending 6A state runner up Hawks, there is a lot of confidence that an opponent like this will only help them in the playoffs.
Deerfield Beach (8A, 6-2) at Boca Raton (8A, 7-1). This has been a strange season for the Bucks – with losses to Dillard and Rockledge. But this is a program loaded with talent and the drive to make a huge impact in the playoffs. On the other side of the ball, the Bobcats are not used to a forum like this – where the winner will be district champs and the loser will fall in the 5-8 seed. Should be a competitive game.
Land O’Lakes (7-1) at Seminole Osceola (7-1). Two programs that are searching for respect and an opportunity to grow their programs after amazing seasons. Here are two program that haven’t been football powers, but are slowly making that journey, competing hard every week. This matchup is what high school football is all about – never giving up and working year-round.
Miami Ransom Everglades (Independent, 7-0) at Miami Florida Christian (3A, 7-0). It can be put this way to understand what this game means for these two unbeaten teams: This rarely happens that both are doing so well on the gridiron, and while the Patriots have received more of the spotlight, Ransom Everglades is ultra-talented and believe they belong. We will have our answer by the end of the night.
Merritt Island (5A, 7-1) at Satellite (5A, 7-1). At the start of the season, these were two teams that wouldn’t be mentioned as the best in the Space Coast region, but that has all changed – and what these two programs have done to compete with the best of the region will be on display – as the Mustangs and Scorpions try and bring back some of the past glory.
Seffner Armwood (7A, 6-2) at Tampa Wharton (7A, 6-1). This is a really interesting game – with both dropping close contests to Tampa Bay Tech. Both programs are stacked with talent and playoff seeding will certainly be in play here. Armwood may have dropped off a bit from their dominating years, but they are still well coached, talented and dangerous. Wharton is also well coached and is loaded with playmakers who have been turning heads for over a year.
