Indian Land played their second game in their beautiful brand new stadium, hosting a county rival in Andrew Jackson. The Warriors used a 2nd half surge aided by the run game and a relentless defensive effort throughout the evening to pull away from the Volunteers to win, 23-6 in their final non-region game on Friday night.
Let’s jump into notes and observations from Friday’s contest:
Indian Land

Senior LB [player_tooltip player_id="59502" first="Dumkele" last="Idehen"] (@didehen8) – Idehen made his impact early and often as he had a sack and forced a safety on Andrew Jackson’s first possession of the contest. He was also involved in a tackle for loss in the second quarter. It’s difficult to find an open hole against him because he's so instinctive and will recognize plays quickly.

Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id="200716" first="Blake" last="Goode"] (@BlakeGoode14) – Goode connected with Hardin on a touchdown pass in the first quarter. He put the ball where it needed to be and his receiver did the rest. In the two games that we’ve watched Goode play, he is a great game manager. He won’t make the disastrous play to put his team in danger and can tuck it and run if he needs to, like we saw Friday night.

Senior DB/WR [player_tooltip player_id="153270" first="Drew" last="Hardin"] (@drew_hardin13) – Hardin lined up at the outside receiver position and was effective in making the routine catches in the quick passing game. The biggest catch he made was in the first quarter on a deep ball where he beat the corner in one-on-one coverage for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Sophomore RB [player_tooltip player_id="139305" first="Jaden" last="Singletary"] (@JadenSingletar6) – Singletary’s running style and the way he is built physically reminds us of a power back who won’t go down. He can make plays in the screen game and really impose his will in the hole against a linebacker, like we saw Friday.

Junior WR/DB Myles Stinson (@MylesStinson1) – Stinson was more involved during the second half as Coach Adam Hastings and the Warriors opted to go to a Wildcat package. In the third quarter, he had a fourth down conversion and on the very next play, hit the hole at the right time and scored a touchdown.

“Myles was a quarterback last year, and he’s playing safety which I think is a really natural position for him. When we get him over there, we put a lot of really athletic, bigger bodies over there in front of him. I think him being an athletic style quarterback, (with him) being back there, I think he sees the field really well (and) understands it really well more than a typical safety.” – Indian Land coach Adam Hastings on Stinson

Andrew Jackson

Junior LB/WR Fuller Sims – Sims was active from his linebacker position throughout the night. There were two back-to-back plays that stood out to us in the second quarter. He immediately recognized a hitch route, limiting the gain on the first play. On the second play, he came right back and cut the running back off before he could get his momentum going.

Junior RB/DB Ely Sowell and sophomore WR/DB Banks Helms – There was one play in the second quarter where [player_tooltip player_id="200716" first="Blake" last="Goode"] tried to go downfield on the left side and they anticipated the throw well and timed their jump to knock away the throw.

Additional notes and observations

The second quarter was dominated by the defenses for both teams as neither team was able to score. Andrew Jackson’s Payton Hornsby went right into the hole where a run was designed to go, timing it perfectly to limit the gain.

Andrew Jackson senior DB/WR Ethan Watts – Watts made a touchdown catch on a designed rollout to cut into Indian Land’s lead early in the third quarter.

Indian Land DL J.T. Knight (@JTKnight20), along with the entire Indian Land defensive line for that matter, was relentless in his pursuit of the Andrew Jackson offense. He took great angles to the ball and the quarterback was well aware of his presence as Knight hit him as he threw at least twie. Knight recorded a sack in the third quarter.
