It was a tough week 3 across the peach state this weekend as Covid-19 impacted a lot of the big games around the state. Lots of teams had scheduled weeks off and other games were unfortunately cancelled across the state. That didn’t stop some North Georgia playmakers from having big weeks on offense.
Here are some of the top offensive performers from week 3 this past weekend...
[player_tooltip player_id="137488" first="Sammy" last="Brown"] - ATH - Jefferson
One of the top athletes across the state, Brown continued his big sophomore season Friday night in a monster win over Southside. Brown, a possible five-star in the 2024 class, got the game started with a kick return touchdown on the opening kickoff. Just a few minutes later, Brown took off for a 14-yard touchdowns score. He scored touchdowns on his first two touches of the game, and the Dragons never looked back. He runs with power, speed, and already looks like an SEC LB/RB at 6-foot-2 215-pounds. At linebacker, Brown recovered a fumble in the end-zone after a bad Seaside snap, giving him three touchdowns on the game. He scored on offense, defense, AND special teams, leading Jefferson to a 45-7 score. He only touched the ball four times, but found a way to score three TDs. Look for him to continue his gigantic season over the next few months.
[player_tooltip player_id="137437" first="Debron" last="Gatling"] - WR - Milton
After a tough loss to North Cobb in week two, the Milton Eagles went back to the drawing board, and they made sure to feed their playmaking WR early and often. The 5-foot-11 180-pounder showed off his big-play ability with his 5 catches for 105 yards and 3 touchdown performance against Life Christian Academy. He made a big 30-yard TD reception in tight coverage down the sideline for his first score and added a 31-yard score shortly after. He’s a good route-runner for his age and was able to slip behind the defense both times to find the end-zone. His 3rd TD came on another crossing route where he was left wide open in the end-zone for an easy 24-yard score. He was just too quick for the opposing defense and found himself open throughout the night. He’s expected to be a major target for QB [player_tooltip player_id="33991" first="Devin" last="Farrell"] the rest of the season.
RB Jai’den Thomas - Westlake
It may have been in a losing effort, but Westlake RB Jai’den Thomas deserves some recognition after another big performance this season. He’s not the biggest back in the area, but the 5-foot-8 160-pounder put his speed on display and ran through an outstanding Creekside defense over the weekend. He was quick, fast, explosive, and ran for over 200 yards and scored three touchdowns in the game. It wasn’t quite enough to lead his team to a victory, but he was one of the best players on the field Friday night. The Westlake offense is know to be more pass-happy, but they might be running the ball more and more with Thomas as the season goes on. The junior back now has over 400 yards rushing through the first three games of the seeason.

[player_tooltip player_id="33933" first="Kamryn" last="Perry"] - WR - Marietta
The Blue Devils are starting to look more like the 2020 team who went on to win the 7A state title. After a tough loss to Colquitt County in week one, the Blue Devils bounced back and soundly defeated rival McEachern over the weekend 42-21 thanks to the play of QB [player_tooltip player_id="33915" first="Tyler" last="Hughes"] and WR [player_tooltip player_id="33933" first="Kamryn" last="Perry"]. The senior wideout was a big play waiting to happen on Friday night and turned in a big performance in the win. Perry caught 9 passes for 101 yards and two scores in the big win. He was consistent, reliable, and was always there when Hughes looked his way. He took advantage of some busted coverage by McEachern and always found a way to get open against the secondary. He’s quick, twitchy, and showed great hands all night. The Blue Devil passing attack looks great through their first two games so expect more of that all fall.
