With non-region play drawing to a close for a lot of teams around the state, here’s a look at Week 4 performances deserving of Prep Redzone game balls.
[player_tooltip player_id="31310" first="Tyler" last="Smith"] continued his strong start for Gaffney. With the Indians operating from a two-back system for the most part, Smith has still maximized his opportunities. He ran for 71 yards and three scores on Friday, adding another touchdown on a 34-yard catch. For the year, Smith has rushed for 6.6 yards per carry on 56 attempts, notching 10 touchdowns.
In the same game, Indians DL <strong>Clay Putnam</strong> showed why the Gaffney staff is making room for him in the lineup. A part-time standout early in the season, Putnam got his first start for Gaffney on Friday. He responded with six tackles and four sacks in the win over rival Byrnes.
Chapman’s [player_tooltip player_id="153248" first="Drew" last="Settle"] somehow continues to fly under the radar despite some eye-popping numbers. He helped lead the Panthers to a blowout win over Chesnee on Friday. Settle threw for 351 yards and four touchdowns, bringing his four-game season total to 1,489 yards and 17 touchdowns with just three interceptions.
<strong>Jonathan Grant</strong> led Oakbrook Prep to its first win since 2019, an 83-0 blasting of Orangeburg Prep. Grant stepped up to take the reins at QB, and the sophomore delivered seven touchdowns. He threw for two, rushed for four, and recorded an interception return for another score for the Knights.
<strong>JaBryson Hunter</strong> put up a good night despite a loss to Greer. Hunter rushed for 83 yards, threw for 188, and produced four total touchdowns, rushing for one and passing for three.
