Week 4 Preview: York and Lancaster Counties

Region play is currently only two weeks away for teams in the Palmetto State, but a few of this week’s matchups in York and Lancaster Counties have a region/playoff game feel to them. For other teams, they’ll be looking to continue to build on what they did from last week. Lugoff-Elgin at Fort Mill – Fort Mill was close to <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2021/09/what-we-saw-piedmonts-run-game-critical-in-win-over-fort-mill/">getting their first win last week against Piedmont (N.C.)</a> but they couldn’t pull it out. The good news is, they found some rhythm on offense as QB Kyle Neibech <a href="https://twitter.com/kneibch_11">(@kneibch_11)</a> and WR Andrew Thompson <a href="https://twitter.com/AndrewT29944184">(@AndrewT29944184)</a>, who scored the Yellow Jackets’ first touchdown in 2021 last week. The Fort Mill run game will be something to watch with RB Michael Threatt <a href="https://twitter.com/MichaelThreatt6">(@MichaelThreatt6)</a>. For Lugoff-Elgin, WR [player_tooltip player_id="153269" first="Blease" last="Campbell"] <a href="https://twitter.com/_jbc4_">(@_jbc4_)</a> is a guy you’ll want to keep your eye on. Indian Land at East Clarendon – The Warriors will hit the road to face 1A school, East Clarendon. It will be interesting to see who they will go with at quarterback as Jaxon Scheidt <a href="https://twitter.com/scheidtjaxon1">(@scheidtjaxon1</a>) got the start in place of [player_tooltip player_id="200716" first="Blake" last="Goode"] in last week’s 51-33 win over Broome. Scheidt threw for one touchdown while running for two more. [player_tooltip player_id="153270" first="Drew" last="Hardin"] <a href="https://twitter.com/drew_hardin13">(@drew_hardin13) </a>will be a guy to watch on defense as well as he made an interception last week. George Washington (Va.) at Nation Ford – The Falcons will be looking for their second straight win against the visitors out of Danville, Va. They should get it led by QB [player_tooltip player_id="91150" first="Carson" last="Black"] <a href="https://twitter.com/CarsonBlack16">(@CarsonBlack16)</a> and RB [player_tooltip player_id="200709" first="Eli" last="Whitner"] <a href="https://twitter.com/EliWhitner">(@EliWhitner)</a> on the offense. South Florence at South Pointe – This game will feature Stallions QB [player_tooltip player_id="200727" first="Zay" last="McCrorey"] <a href="https://twitter.com/ZayMccrorey1">(@ZayMccrorey1)</a> and Bruins QB and Virginia commit [player_tooltip player_id="146356" first="LaNorris" last="Sellers"] <a href="https://twitter.com/LanorriSellers">(@LanorriSellers)</a>. Based on the first few weeks for both of these teams and despite pauses due to COVID, this could be a high scoring shootout on the south side of Rock Hill on Friday night. Other guys to watch include South Florence WR Evin Singletary <a href="https://twitter.com/EvinSingletary">(@EvinSingletary)</a>, who had 3 touchdown catches against Irmo and South Pointe WR Waymond Jenerette <a href="https://twitter.com/WaymondJeneret3">(@WaymondJeneret3)</a> had 6 catches for 204 yards last week against Shelby. Northwestern at Greenville – Coach Page Wofford’s Trojans are currently in a stretch of four straight road games. This one will likely be the toughest of them all with a trip down I-85 to the Upstate. Greenville has a plethora of talent headlined by Clemson commit OL [player_tooltip player_id="59461" first="Collin" last="Sadler"] <a href="https://twitter.com/CollinSadler1">(@CollinSadler1)</a> and QB Prometheus Franklin <a href="https://twitter.com/PrometheusFran1">(@PrometheusFran1)</a> and a sophomore WR, who already has an offer from Coastal Carolina in Mazeo Bennett <a href="https://twitter.com/TheMazeoBennett">(@TheMazeoBennett) </a>Northwestern’s skill talent, which includes QB [player_tooltip player_id="89316" first="Will" last="Mattison"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Will1Mattison">(@Will1Mattison)</a> and WR [player_tooltip player_id="89332" first="Christian" last="Watkins"] <a href="https://twitter.com/GerellWatkins">(@GerellWatkins)</a> makes this a game to watch closely. York at Rock Hill – This cross county matchup will be interesting as both teams are looking to find their rhythm before region play starts on October 1. Rock Hill is winless and hasn’t played in two weeks due to COVID-19 and York is looking for their second straight win. Cougars LB [player_tooltip player_id="91189" first="Mekayle" last="Burris"] <a href="https://twitter.com/k8_Officiall">(@k8_Officiall)</a> is a tackling machine who is all over the place and he’ll be looking to slow down Bearcats QB [player_tooltip player_id="139293" first="Matthew" last="Wilson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/matthew76905115">(@matthew76905115)</a>, who will be eager to show off his arm strength for the first time in weeks. Catawba Ridge at South Mecklenburg (NC) – Catawba Ridge will cross the state line for the second straight week to take on the Sabres. The Copperheads have had stellar performances from their stars in QB [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"] <a href="https://twitter.com/iamjadyndavis">(@iamjadyndavis)</a>, WR [player_tooltip player_id="153256" first="Jacobie" last="Henderson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/cobieh10">(@cobieh10) </a>and DL [player_tooltip player_id="59504" first="Asa" last="Johnson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Asajohnson55]">(@Asajohnson55)</a> over the last few weeks. This will be put to the test against a 3-1 South Meck squad who will be celebrating Homecoming and will create a hostile environment for Zac Lendyak’s team. Other notable games in York and Lancaster Co. include: Legion Collegiate Academy at Charlotte Latin.
