As some of the Midlands teams have already moved into region play, others are still playing non-region games. But some of those non-region games are likely to have the look and feel of a November playoff type atmosphere. Four games have caught our attention with one of them being a high-powered team from Georgia traveling over for a marquee matchup.
Here’s a quick look at the top games in the area tonight.
A.C. Flora (2-0) at Camden (3-1)
This game will feature several high-profile prospects all over the field and be a matchup between teams that played for state titles last year. A.C. Flora, the defending Class 4A champion, has allowed just seven points in two games and that came well after the outcome was decided. [player_tooltip player_id="200664" first="Tyrell" last="Green"], [player_tooltip player_id="200667" first="Boyce" last="Bankhead"], [player_tooltip player_id="200693" first="Tyler" last="Robinson"], and [player_tooltip player_id="200695" first="Jacob" last="Croffie"] lead the defensive unit. The offense has standouts Markel Townsend, [player_tooltip player_id="202725" first="Chris" last="Lofton"], and [player_tooltip player_id="202733" first="Carew" last="Bates"]. Camden has averaged 40 points per game over the course of its three-game winning streak. [player_tooltip player_id="153230" first="Cauthen" last="Best"] and Devonte McCray lead the offense with Dorian Ferguson, [player_tooltip player_id="153229" first="Dontrell" last="Stradford"] and [player_tooltip player_id="89338" first="Xzavier" last="McLeod"] leading the defense.
Brookland-Cayce (2-0) at Chapin (3-0)
The scoreboard at Cecil Woolbright Stadium better be in good working order for this one. Chapin comes in ranked No. 6 in Class 5A, and B-C is No. 4 in Class 3A and both featured high-powered offenses. Chapin has the three-headed attack of QB [player_tooltip player_id="139289" first="Jayden" last="Bradford"] (448 yard and eight touchdowns), RB [player_tooltip player_id="89315" first="Bennett" last="Galloway"] (eight touchdowns) and WR [player_tooltip player_id="59482" first="Zavier" last="Short"] (nine touchdowns). BC went on the road and defeated Chapman last week with a 405 yard passing attack of QB [player_tooltip player_id="199432" first="Tanner" last="Staton"]. Leading WR Jordan Wise is out with an injury but there is still plenty of firepower for the Bearcats. LBs [player_tooltip player_id="200697" first="Owen" last="Plane"] and Benjamin Pugh will try to slow the Eagles attack.
Dutch Fork (2-0) at Greenwood (4-0)
The five-time defending Class 5A state champion Silver Foxes go on the road for another challenge to its 52-game unbeaten streak. RB [player_tooltip player_id="91136" first="Jarvis" last="Green"] has picked up where he left off last season with WR [player_tooltip player_id="61070" first="Antonio" last="Williams"] showing why he’s one of the most coveted wideouts in the country. QB Davin Patterson has been the engineer for the offense that is averaging 63 points and nearly 500 yards per game. Greenwood counters with one of the better defenses in the state. The physical unit is being led by DB Daylan Rappley and LB Chris Simmons.
Rabun County (Ga) (2-1) at Saluda (3-0)
The Tigers will welcome QB Gunner Stockton and Rabun County into town Friday night. The Georgia commit has 873 yards and 11 touchdown passes so far this season while averaging 40 points a contest. Stockton also has rushed for 303 yards on the season Jaden Gibson is the top WR with 14 catches for 459 yards. Saluda counters with QB Jonah McCary and RB Montrevious Baker for an offense that averages 49 points per game.
