It was a defensive dominant battle throughout the first half with each offense being able to move the ball more after the 2nd half adjustments. Momentum was swinging back and forth but in the end, it was Wheaton Warrenville South that came away with the 12-10 win against St Charles North with the game-winning field goal leaving 4.5 seconds left on the clock.
Brandon Bell Brandon Bell 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Wheaton Warrenville South | 2022 State IL 6’0 165 22’ WR Twitter
Mr. Bell has playmaking abilities, he’s quick off the line of scrimmage which gives him a step on the defender. He uses this step advantage to stack the defender and break him off at the top of the route creating enough separation with his route running abilities. This was seen when he’s running a fly route giving himself just enough space to catch the deep ball along the sideline. Once this young man secures the catch he plants his foot into the ground and turns upfield quickly utilizing his quick acceleration. When in open space he’s a shifty receiver that can make the first defender first.
Matt Sommerdyke 6’3 200 22’ QB Twitter
Mr. Sommerdyke has a touch on the deep ball which he uses to make level 3 throws. He’s able to get the ball off under pressure where he puts zip on the ball putting the ball in the receiver’s basket. If you flush him out of the pocket he has the ability to pull the ball down to scramble for the first down. This young man can also get the ball out quickly putting extra velocity on the ball to fit it between the linebackers and safeties.
Charlie Hoover 5’10 185 22’ DL
Mr. Hoover was on a mission this last Friday night where he was a force to be reckoned with. He fills holes in run support and is quick off the ball. Pair this with his use of hands at the point of attack and he disrupted the backfield all night long. This young man is able to gain a step on the offensive lineman where he bats the hands down and sinks his hips to get pressure on the quarterback (also a few sacks). In run support, he’s able to shed the block at the point of attack and meets the ball carrier in the backfield resulting in TFLs. He also gets his hands up at the line of scrimmage resulting in deflecting the pass on the play.

Matthew Crider 5’11 175 24’ RB Twitter
Mr. Crider is a new running back on the block for Wheaton Warrenville South and was a sight to see. He’s able to catch out of the backfield and once he secures the catch he gets upfield quickly. When the ball gets into his hands he hursts through the line of scrimmage and keeps his feet driving to fight for extra yards. Below is his touchdown on the night where he has the vision to see the cutback lane. He stops on a dime then accelerates to full speed in an instant after he changes direction and isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder.

Louie Bellocchio 6’3 230 22’ DL
Mr. Bellocchio did a good job using his hands at the point of attack which helped him fill gaps in run support and get pressure on the quarterback. This happens by him controlling the line of scrimmage and getting off of blocks to make the tackle for no gain on the play. He has a good bull rush that showcases his strength as he pushes the offensive lineman into the quarterback pocket disrupting the play on passing downs.
James Hohnstein 6’0 205 22’ DL Twitter
Mr. Hohnstein is another defensive lineman that was able to control the line of scrimmage by filling gaps in run support holding his gap responsibility and getting pressure on the quarterback off the edge. This young man also gets off of blocks to make the tackle resulting in meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play.
Ben Berkley 5’10 170 22′ K Twitter
Mr. Berkley was the name of the game when it was all said and done as he kicked a game-winning 29-yard field goal in the final seconds to seal the win for Wheaton Warrenville South. Diving into the specifics of his skillset, he does a good job of following through on his kick where he keeps a solid base. He has solid leg strength which was shown on kickoffs by putting the ball inside the 20-yard line on a consistent basis. Keep an eye on this young man as he can be a reliable option late in games when the pressure is on.
