Week 3 Preview: York, Chester and Lancaster Counties

For some teams in the York, Lancaster and Chester Co. areas, Friday night presents an opportunity for them to rebound after a loss and for others, this will be their first contest due to COVID-19 as we get closer to region play beginning on October 1, for now. Catawba Ridge at West Cabarrus (NC) – Coach Zac Lendyak’s Copperheads are coming off their first loss of the 2021 season against Greenwood last week and they will make a trip to the Concord, N.C. area on Friday night. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Jadyn" last="Davis"] <a href="https://twitter.com/iamjadyndavis">(@iamjadyndavis)</a> and the offense will be looking to find their rhythm after being held to 14 points. The defense will be looking to follow up on a solid performance which was led by [player_tooltip player_id="59504" first="Asa" last="Johnson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Asajohnson55">(@Asajohnson55)</a> who had multiple TFLs and clogged run lanes against a tricky option attack. Piedmont (NC) at Fort Mill – Fort Mill was originally scheduled to play Lancaster, but the Yellow Jackets made a change on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets have struggled early as they are 0-2. Senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="118721" first="Miller" last="Shouse"] <a href="https://twitter.com/ShouseMiller">(@ShouseMiller)</a> has been a bright spot for the defense who has recorded 10 tackles and played at multiple positions. If you want to see strong special teams play, junior long snapper Gannon Burt <a href="https://twitter.com/GannonBurt">(@GannonBurt)</a> and senior punter Joe Schepler <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeSchepler">(@JoeSchepler)</a> have been consistent. The question will be can they get going on offense with quarterback Kyle Neibech <a href="https://twitter.com/kneibch_11">(@kneibch_11)</a> and wide receivers J.J. Ogwal <a href="https://twitter.com/jj_ogwal">(@jj_ogwal)</a> and Jason Moran <a href="https://twitter.com/Jason_moran11">(@Jason_moran11)</a>, as they have yet to score a touchdown in 2021. Broome at Indian Land – Coach Adam Hastings and the Warriors will play their first game since the season opener due to COVID-19 on Friday so it’s difficult to pinpoint how the Indians will look. The running game was critical for them in the win over Nation Ford. Look for sophomore running back [player_tooltip player_id="139305" first="Jaden" last="Singletary"] <a href="https://twitter.com/JadenSingletar6">(@JadenSingletar6</a>) to be featured heavily in the game plan to ease them back into the flow after the long pause. Senior quarterback Blake Goode <a href="https://twitter.com/BlakeGoode3">(@BlakeGoode14)</a> will use the quick passing game to his advantage. We expect linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="59502" first="Dumkele" last="Idehen"] <a href="https://twitter.com/didehen8">(@didehen8)</a> to have an impact as well. South Pointe at Shelby (NC) – The Stallions have also not played a game since their opener against Northwestern due to COVID-19 issues. But just like with the Warriors over in Lancaster County, the Stallions found something in their run game with running backs Ja’Quan Thompson <a href="https://mobile.twitter.com/JQThompson03">(@JQThompson03)</a> and Caleb Sims <a href="https://mobile.twitter.com/simscaleb10">(@simscaleb10)</a>, especially in the second half in the opener. Friday will present a challenge against a traditional North Carolina power who the Stallions last played in 2017. Senior wide receiver Waymond Jenerette <a href="https://mobile.twitter.com/WaymondJeneret3">(@WaymondJeneret3)</a> exploded in the opener and if he can have any semblance of that performance, the Stallions will be in good shape. Legion Collegiate Academy at Charlotte Christian – Legion lost to Gray Collegiate to open the 2021 season last Thursday, who is currently the No. 2 ranked team in the statewide media poll. Friday night presents a different challenge as they head up I-77 to Charlotte. Freshman quarterback Andrew Turner <a href="https://twitter.com/andrew_turner12?lang=en">(@Andrew_Turner12)</a> will look to improve on his performance from last week. Wide receiver Charles Green IV <a href="https://twitter.com/Charles_Green14">(@Charles_Green14)</a> will also be a guy to watch. Union County (SC) at York – York took a tough loss to Cox Mill last Friday night, despite forcing four turnovers. If they can have a repeat performance on defense and build consistency on offense, that should serve them well on Friday night. Sophomore quarterback Ayden Davis (<a href="https://twitter.com/aydendavis03?lang=en">@AydenDavis03)</a> has the capability to produce with his legs. But the key for the Cougar offense will be the stable of running backs which include [player_tooltip player_id="59495" first="Frank" last="Thompson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/FrankThompsonJ1">(@FrankThompsonJ1)</a> and [player_tooltip player_id="153267" first="RJ" last="Glasgow"] <a href="http://@rivilisg">(@RivilisG)</a>. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="91189" first="Mekayle" last="Burris"] <a href="https://twitter.com/k8_Officiall">(@k8_Officiall)</a> was all over the place on defense for the Cougars last week, and you can expect that to continue. Northwestern at Chester – Northwestern and Chester are playing each other after their original opponents have had COVID-19 issues appear. This game brings some intrigue because two top quarterbacks in our current PRZ rankings will be featured: Trojans quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="89316" first="Will" last="Mattison"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Will1Mattison">(@Will1Mattison)</a> and Cyclones quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="59469" first="Zan" last="Dunham"] <a href="https://twitter.com/ZanDunham17">(@ZanDunham17). </a>Coach Victor Floyd and the Cyclones have an explosive run game that ran all over Fort Mill a few weeks ago which features running back Shydem McCullough <a href="https://twitter.com/ShydemM">(@ShydemM</a>). Northwestern has a trio of wide receivers that we’ve mentioned before, but William Brooks is a junior wide receiver you’ll want to keep your eye on Friday night.
