Continue ReadingAt this point of the season, most teams throughout the entire state of Georgia have only played 2 games, making it pretty much an equal playing field statistically for each player to make a run at having the most yards in a specific statistical category. This time around, we want to take an early look at the top 5 passing leaders in the state, and what has contributed to their success so far. Whether they can sustain this success, only time can tell, but it will certainly be fun to track each of these prospects, as well as others that may fluctuate in and out of the rankings as the season goes by.
Aaron Philo- Prince Avenue Christian (824 yards)
Home of former QB, Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA , who is now enrolled at UGA, Prince Avenue Christian still manages to maintain relevancy as their new signal caller, Aaron Philo, leads the entire state in passing to this point of the season. In total, he has already thrown for an amazing 824 yards. This includes 270 yards in the team’s opening loss against Calvary Day, and an unbelievable 554 yards against the Christian Academy of Knoxville. In total, all of these passing yards have already allowed Philo to throw 6 TD’s, with over 50 completions. In addition to this, he has also thrown 4 interceptions, which mostly came in the first week of the season. Due to his overall success, and ability, the rest of the season looks bright, especially if he can continue to clean up the mistakes, and bad decisions.
Robbie Roper Robbie Roper 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Roswell | 2022 State GA – Roswell High School (770 yards)
Roper, who is a 2022 prospect, has had his fair share of success throughout his high school career. So far, to start his senior year, he has totaled 770 passing yards, putting him in the second place spot for passing this season. Along with this, he has only thrown 2 interceptions, and 10 TD passes. These 10 TD passes have helped him lead Roswell to a 2-0 record so far, in which they expect to further succeed as the year goes by. To add to this, it is also important to note that Roper managed to pass for a whopping 447 yards in his season debut, followed by a 323 yard performance in week two.
John Alan Richter- Jones County (638 yards)
While Richter may not be a very well known name compared to other names on this list, he has managed to hold his own when it comes to a statewide race for the most passing yards in the 2021 season. In total, he has already passed for 638 passing yards, with an average of 319 yards a game. Even though his team lost their week one match up, he finished the game with strong statistics, as he threw for over 280 yards, and a passer rating of over 140. By the time week two rolled around, Richter followed this performance up with another strong showing, as he threw for 351 yards, only proving that his week one success was not a fluke. In total, each of these performances has also rewarded Richter with 6 TD passes, to only 1 interception. This speaks volumes in itself, showing that Jones County has a bright future this season at the QB position.
Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA – Rabun County (540 yards)
It should come as no surprise that the UGA commit has found his way on this list, even after only two weeks of the regular season. To this point of the season, he has already passed for about 540 yards, and 7 TD’s. If this in itself is not impressive enough, he has managed to do this with 0 interceptions and a decent passing percentage. Unfortunately though, his team happens to be 1-1 so far this season, as they lost their season opener against Jefferson, 22-13. Because we expect him to be able to perform to expectation this season, we also are looking for him to be able to steer the ship of Rabun County’s destiny this season. If he is able to do so, we fully expect him to not only be one of the state’s leaders in passing, but one of the best QB’s in the playoffs by the time it is all said and done.
